{"id":36239,"date":"2025-11-27T11:02:03","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T00:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=36239"},"modified":"2025-11-27T11:02:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T00:02:03","slug":"historic-new-cadet-traineeship-program-launched-to-encourage-young-people-to-join-the-nsw-police-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/historic-new-cadet-traineeship-program-launched-to-encourage-young-people-to-join-the-nsw-police-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Historic new cadet traineeship program launched to encourage young people to join the NSW Police Force"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the first time in almost 50 years, the NSW Government is&nbsp;establishing a&nbsp;new program&nbsp;to equip young, aspiring police officers with the skills, training and experience to join the NSW Police Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he&nbsp;12-month&nbsp;Cadet Traineeship Program&nbsp;will give school leavers and young adults hands-on experience and early exposure to policing culture, values and expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cadets will complete 12 months of field-based learning, rotating through four placements, including six months in general duties, two months with Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, two months with the&nbsp;detectives&nbsp;unit and two months with the crime prevention unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the 12 months, cadets will obtain a Certificate III in business and be able to apply to undertake further study and training at the Goulburn Police Academy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entry requirements include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The applicant must be 16-years-old to apply, 17-years-old to commence the program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School leavers \u2013 must have completed year 10.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must pass physical, medical and psychometric testing and base line vetting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The first NSW Police Force Cadet Traineeship Program will begin on 7 April 2026 as a pilot in The Hills Police Area Command and Sutherland Shire Police Area Command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cadets will also obtain first aid and aquatic sequence rescue training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will wear a&nbsp;distinct&nbsp;uniform to differentiate them from other officers and&nbsp;will&nbsp;not have access to weapons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information&nbsp;can be found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.police.nsw.gov.au\/recruitment\/cadet_traineeship_program\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is part of the Minns Labor Government\u2019s plan to rebuild the NSWPF and create safer communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is still more to do, that work includes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delivering a once-in-a-generation pay rise for police officers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing an historic scheme to pay recruits to train, resulting in a 70% increase in applications to join the NSWPF.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing the Be a Cop\u00a0In\u00a0Your Hometown program to give regional recruits the opportunity to serve in or near their hometown after attesting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing the Professional Mobility Program to incentivise experienced officers from\u00a0interstate and New Zealand to join the NSWPF.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing\u00a0the Health Safety and Wellbeing Command to support officers to have long, healthy and rewarding careers with the NSW Police Force.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPolicing is one of the toughest jobs in our community.
