{"id":35344,"date":"2025-10-12T16:17:45","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T05:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=35344"},"modified":"2025-10-12T16:17:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T05:17:45","slug":"greens-slam-state-of-childcare-after-more-malpractice-cases-uncovered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/10\/12\/greens-slam-state-of-childcare-after-more-malpractice-cases-uncovered\/","title":{"rendered":"Greens slam state of childcare after more malpractice cases uncovered"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Greens say the early education and care system is in desperate need of overhaul after today\u2019s shocking reports revealed further safety and reporting concerns and a preventable infant death in an unlicensed childcare centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the ABC and The Sydney Morning Herald revealed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Childcare company Affinity Education withheld information from detectives during the Joshua Brown investigation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 15 week old baby died in an unlicensed care centre while in an unsafe sleeping environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Steph Hodgins-May, the Australian Greens spokesperson for early childhood education and care will question the federal Department of Education at Senate Estimates tomorrow (Friday) on key issues of quality and safety and the rollout of safety reforms announced by the Government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, the Greens successfully established a Senate Inquiry into the quality and safety of early childhood education and care after the government failed to adequately address the deep flaws in the system and responded with piecemeal fixes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Greens spokesperson for early education and care, Senator Steph Hodgins-May:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a parent, it\u2019s distressing to see our childcare system continue to let down children and families.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTime and time again, the system is allowing these cases of malpractice to go unchecked. It\u2019s a symptom of a broken, profit-driven system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the Labor government drags its feet with band-aid fixes, children, parents and educators are paying the price through unsafe environments and ignored complaints.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A market-driven childcare system will always put profit over the safety and quality of our children\u2019s care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Estimates tomorrow, I\u2019ll be pressing&nbsp; the Department of Education for answers on how it intends to provide the accountability parents deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have also established a Senate Inquiry into the quality and safety of early learning, to uncover the systemic failings and put forward strong reforms so parents can finally trust the system.
