{"id":35051,"date":"2025-09-22T16:30:20","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T06:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=35051"},"modified":"2025-09-22T16:30:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T06:30:20","slug":"future-of-the-new-2-billion-bankstown-hospital-unveiled-with-first-look-at-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/09\/22\/future-of-the-new-2-billion-bankstown-hospital-unveiled-with-first-look-at-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Future of the new $2 billion Bankstown Hospital unveiled with first look at design"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The community has been given its first look at the design for the state-of-the-art new Bankstown Hospital, part of a record investment to deliver enhanced healthcare and facilities for South-West Sydney communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this is an important milestone, the Government has also made it clear we have work to do when it comes to health in Western Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minns Labor Government is investing $2 billion for the new Bankstown Hospital to help meet the future healthcare needs of our fast-growing and diverse community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept designs showcase the new multi-storey building, which will house acute services including emergency, operating theatres and inpatient wards, enhancing access to healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design also features the hospital\u2019s emergency department entry and main entry plaza, which will include green space and connect seamlessly with its Chapel Road location in Bankstown\u2019s city centre, close to bus and train services and the future Sydney Metro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vibrant, city-shaping design ensures inpatient wards on the upper levels have maximum light and views, while the ground levels are well-connected to the nearby city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is currently in the early planning stage, which has been informed by consultation with more than 1,000 staff, patients and community members through workshops, surveys and information sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the 2025-26 State Budget, the Minns Labor Government announced an additional $700 million for the new Bankstown Hospital, bringing the total investment to $2 billion, making it the largest single capital works investment in a public hospital in the state\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scope of the new Bankstown Hospital will be finalised through the planning process but is anticipated to include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emergency department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operating theatres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intensive care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surgical and medical services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health services for women and children including maternity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mental health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ambulatory care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aged health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New multi-storey car park and on-ground parking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other clinical services to be defined as planning progresses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the coming months, further opportunities for staff and the community to provide feedback are planned to help inform the ongoing planning and design of the new hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSW Government is also investing $100 million to relocate the TAFE NSW Bankstown campus to enable construction of the new hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TAFE NSW will relocate most of its training delivery to the new Western Sydney University Tower, across the road from the existing Bankstown campus. This will ensure local staff and students can still access brand new facilities and bespoke teaching and learning spaces in the heart of the Bankstown CBD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025-26 NSW Budget includes $1.3 billion of additional funding to support the delivery of health facilities across Western Sydney including:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Additional State funding of $90 million to provide the full range of maternity and birthing services as part of the new Rouse Hill Hospital, with a further $120 million announced by the Commonwealth Government towards new the Rouse Hill Hospital development;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$120 million for additional beds for Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$492 million to develop a Statewide Pathology Hub on the Westmead campus;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$40.1 million to fit out level 13 of the new Paediatric Services Building at Westmead in partnership with the Sydney Children\u2019s Hospitals Foundation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$22.3 million to establish a new paediatric hospice at the Children\u2019s Hospital at Westmead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other projects in the Western Sydney region include upgrades at Nepean, Liverpool, Canterbury, Fairfield, Camden and Campbelltown hospitals.
