{"id":34633,"date":"2025-09-01T18:33:55","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T08:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=34633"},"modified":"2025-09-01T18:33:55","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T08:33:55","slug":"nsw-trains-run-red-lights-while-commuters-wait","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/09\/01\/nsw-trains-run-red-lights-while-commuters-wait\/","title":{"rendered":"NSW trains run red lights while commuters wait"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>New figures obtained by the Opposition reveal NSW train drivers ran through red lights 224 times in 2024\u201325 \u2013 an average of four times every single week \u2013 raising fresh questions about the culture and priorities inside Transport for NSW following the generous new pay deal with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU).<br>&nbsp;<br>The data, compiled by Shadow Assistant Minister for Government Accountability Matt Cross, shows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>224 total red light breaches in FY2024\u201325 \u2013 equal to 19 per month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>115 separate stations\/locations recorded incidents, with an average of 2 per site<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Top lines for breaches included Central Coast &amp; Newcastle, Eastern Suburbs &amp; Illawarra, T9 Northern and the South Coast line.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The poor performance follows ongoing poor service reliability in August with one in four trains late servicing the intercity line and one in every ten trains late on Sydney\u2019s suburban line.<br>&nbsp;<br>For regional commuters from the South Coast and Central Coast travelling on the intercity lines, nearly 40 per cent of services have been late in 2025.
