{"id":3442,"date":"2019-08-13T02:01:13","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T02:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=3442"},"modified":"2019-08-13T02:01:13","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T02:01:13","slug":"15000-grants-pool-for-newcastle-community-groups-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/08\/13\/15000-grants-pool-for-newcastle-community-groups-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"$150,00 GRANTS POOL FOR NEWCASTLE COMMUNITY GROUPS NOW OPEN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"excerpt\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/sharonclaydon\/pages\/496\/attachments\/original\/1565650020\/11.jpg?1565650020\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Sharon Claydon MP has encouraged Newcastle community groups to consider putting in an Expression of Interest for a chance of securing up to $20,000 in funding for small capital projects.<br \/>\nMs Claydon said there was a total funding pool of $150,000 would be available through the\u00a0<em>2019 Newcastle Stronger Communities Grants<\/em>\u00a0program.<br \/>\n\u201cThe program will provide matched funding for cash or in-kind contributions for projects which will improve local community participation,\u201d Ms Claydon said.<br \/>\n\u201cCommunity-based not-for-profit organisations and local governing bodies are eligible to apply for grants of between $2,500 and $20,000.<br \/>\n\u201cResource-stretched community organisations often struggle to raise the funds for capital works and new equipment but these grants are a great way to secure much-needed upgrades.<br \/>\n\u201cWhether it\u2019s an upgrade to current facilities, new sports equipment, improvements for disability access or a fit-out of a community centre, there\u2019s a wide range of projects that could be eligible under this program. I encourage all eligible groups to lodge applications for projects that will help build a strong and healthy community.\u201d<br \/>\nIn the 2018 round:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hunter Multicultural Communities received $15,000 to construct a caf\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>ACON received $19,000 to refurbish its community health facility<\/li>\n<li>Dress for Success received $10,000 for an office fitout<\/li>\n<li>Nobby\u2019s Surf Life Saving Club received $10,500 towards equipment including an all-terrain vehicle\u00a0<em>(pictured and attached)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Islamic\u00a0 Centre of Newcastle received $19,000 to upgrade kitchen facilities<\/li>\n<li>Tantrum Theatre received $19,000 to fit out a multipurpose space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Expressions of Interest close on Sunday 15 September.
