{"id":34374,"date":"2025-08-19T20:21:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T10:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=34374"},"modified":"2025-08-19T20:21:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T10:21:06","slug":"hsu-members-strongly-endorse-wage-increase-for-50000-health-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/08\/19\/hsu-members-strongly-endorse-wage-increase-for-50000-health-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"HSU members strongly endorse wage increase for 50,000 health workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Members of the Health Services Union (HSU) have accepted the NSW Government\u2019s offer to increase wages and deliver benefits for more than 50,000 health workers across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement \u2013 which received over 90 per cent in support from the HSU membership \u2013 provides an 8.5 per cent increase over two years to a range of NSW Health staff, including allied health workers, hospital cleaners, scientists, security officers, and patient transport officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health workers will receive an increase of 4.0 per cent plus 0.5 per cent in superannuation backdated from 1 July 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1 July 2026, they will receive another increase of 4.0 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement is consistent with the Government\u2019s new Fair Pay and Bargaining Policy and delivers significant reforms to NSW Health Awards covered by the HSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These expanded benefits include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>payment of higher-grade duties beginning after 3 days or more instead of 5 days;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increased rest periods of 10 hours between rostered shifts, up from the current 8 hours; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the requirement for 4 weeks\u2019 notice of roster changes, up from the current two weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government and HSU will now begin work to modernise, consolidate, and streamline over 50 existing industrial awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After 12 years of wage suppression and neglect of the health system, the Minns Labor Government abolished the wages cap and is working to rebuild the health workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Health Minister Ryan Park:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great day for 50,000 health workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have worked closely and constructively with the Health Services Union to deliver on this significant agreement. I want to thank Gerard Hayes and his team for their constant and outcomes-focused engagement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re paying health workers more, and we\u2019re going to recruit more and retain more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMore health staff, lower wait times, better health outcomes \u2013 it\u2019s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Industrial Relations Sophie Cotsis:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This agreement marks a significant win for over 50,000 dedicated health workers across NSW.
