{"id":33518,"date":"2025-07-03T06:47:56","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T20:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=33518"},"modified":"2025-07-03T06:47:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T20:47:56","slug":"public-consultation-opens-for-the-australian-naval-nuclear-power-safety-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/07\/03\/public-consultation-opens-for-the-australian-naval-nuclear-power-safety-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Public consultation opens for the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Albanese Government is taking an important step as part of Australia\u2019s acquisition of conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, public consultation has opened on the regulatory framework that will underpin Australia\u2019s Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is another milestone occurring under the AUKUS partnership, a core pillar of the Albanese Government\u2019s national security policy, creating more than 20,000 direct jobs over the next 30 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This consultation allows for the development of a framework that will ensure the highest standards of nuclear safety and radiological protection are applied across the nuclear-powered submarine program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The consultation period will run from 2 July to 30 July 2025, with key stakeholders and the Australian public invited to provide input.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The draft regulations focus on licensing the facility and material activities necessary to support work associated with the current stage of Australia\u2019s nuclear-powered submarine program.
