Two tower cranes supporting the delivery of the new Shellharbour Hospital will officially be known as \u2018Shane\u2019 and \u2018Anita Lift\u2019 after being named by two local school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u2018Name the Cranes\u2019 competition received close to 130 creative entries from school children across the region, providing the community\u2019s youngest residents with the chance to engage in the new Shellharbour Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven-year-old Shellharbour Public School student Zoe Green who came up with the name \u2018Shane\u2019 and seven-year-old Lainey Anger from Primbee Public School who picked the name \u2018Anita Lift\u2019 were announced as the winners of the \u2018Name the Cranes\u2019 competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The students were today joined by the Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson MP, for a special presentation on site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Shane\u2019 is the combination of the first two letters of Shellharbour and last three letters of \u2018Crane\u2019 together, while \u2018Anita Lift\u2019 is a play on words and sounds like \u2018I need a lift\u2019 when said fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winning names, \u2018Shane\u2019 and \u2018Anita Lift,\u2019 will be prominently displayed on the cranes, with both cranes now installed. The two cranes stand at 52 and 45 metres high and can be seen across Shellharbour as they tower over the site and work to build the seven-storey structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The successful entries were selected by representatives from Health Infrastructure, BESIX Watpac, Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and Savills Project Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new hospital is part of the over $780 million New Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project, which also includes improvements to Wollongong Hospital, a refurbishment of Bulli Hospital and a new Community Health Centre on a portion of land at the former Port Kembla Hospital site at Warrawong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is expected to support around 800 direct jobs during construction, with the potential to support thousands of indirect jobs over the life of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
