The Australian Salaried Medical Officers\u2019 Federation (ASMOF) has advised it will proceed with planned strike action between Tuesday and Thursday this week \u2013 in breach of the orders of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ASMOF’s strike plans will disrupt our hospitals and health facilities across NSW \u2013 both to emergency departments as well as planned surgeries \u2013 contrary to the union\u2019s claims patient care will not be impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preparations are now urgently underway to manage impact on our patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patients with surgeries postponed will be contacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We reinstated the independent IRC for this very reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The IRC allows workers to advance their claims without the limits of the wages cap the previous government imposed, without endangering the welfare and safety of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is not something the government devised on our own \u2013 unions and workers fought for it too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And we have always said our government would accept a determination of the IRC, whether it rules in our favour or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I share the community\u2019s desire to see our healthcare workers paid more \u2013 it\u2019s why we\u2019ve offered a 10.5 per cent multi-year wage increases (on top of the 4.5 per cent already in pockets) and sat down with unions over many years to deliver those pay increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is not a union without options \u2013 it is inexplicable ASMOF would actively choose to jeopardise patient safety over resolving its claim in the IRC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I say to ASMOF, it is not too late to return to the IRC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Australian Salaried Medical Officers\u2019 Federation (ASMOF) has advised it will proceed with planned strike action between Tuesday and Thursday this week \u2013 in breach of the orders of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).
