{"id":31778,"date":"2025-03-10T22:10:53","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T22:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=31778"},"modified":"2025-03-10T22:10:53","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T22:10:53","slug":"financial-assistance-on-the-way-for-northern-new-south-wales-residents-recovering-from-cyclone-alfred","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/03\/10\/financial-assistance-on-the-way-for-northern-new-south-wales-residents-recovering-from-cyclone-alfred\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial assistance on the way for Northern New South Wales residents recovering from Cyclone Alfred"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Albanese and Minns Governments are today announcing emergency financial assistance to help residents in the State\u2019s north-east severely impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jointly funded package will provide emergency financial assistance of $180 for individuals or up to $900 per family to cover essential costs such as food, clothing, medicines and emergency accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Personal Hardship Assistance Grant for individuals and families is part of a range of support aimed at helping people recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible for the grant individuals must reside in one of the declared affected Local Government Areas of &#8211; Armidale, Ballina, Bellingen, Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Dungog, Glenn Innes Severn, Kempsey, Kyogle, Lismore, Lord Howe Island, MidCoast, Nambucca Valley, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Richmond Valley, Tenterfield and Tweed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, individuals must have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Been subject to evacuation orders (Category red emergency warning)&nbsp;<strong>or<\/strong><\/li><li>Experienced power outages of more than 48 hours.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must demonstrate they have suffered hardship as result of the disaster, making them unable to meet immediate needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications will open on Wednesday 12 March and will be open until 8 April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These payments are part of the Albanese and New South Wales Governments&#8217; ongoing commitment to helping residents rebuild their lives following the severe impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impacted community members are encouraged to visit New South Wales Government&nbsp;Recovery Assistance Points which will be operating in key locations from the end of this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out where these will be and about other support available go to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=cc78905ba31375fc3e53d496c&amp;id=b3771f9855&amp;e=9a5dbb24d7\">www.nsw.gov.au\/cyclonealfredrecovery<\/a>&nbsp;to find out supports and assistance available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition the Albanese Government has activated the Disaster Recovery Allowance for communities directly affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allowance offers up to 13 weeks of income support for eligible workers and sole traders, depending on their personal circumstances, who have suffered a loss of income as a direct result of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more details on the Disaster Recovery Allowance go to Services Australia website at:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=cc78905ba31375fc3e53d496c&amp;id=27514dd057&amp;e=9a5dbb24d7\">servicesaustralia.gov.au\/natural-disaster-support<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other support available to communities as a result of Tropical Cyclone Alfred can be found www.<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=cc78905ba31375fc3e53d496c&amp;id=0f68df452d&amp;e=9a5dbb24d7\">nsw.gov.au\/cyclonealfredrecovery<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prime-minister-anthony-albanese\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe are working with the Minns Government to get this money out the door as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy message to those affected is my Government has got your back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"premier-of-new-south-wales-chris-minns\">Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been tough going for the communities impacted by TC Alfred. In particular those families who have been without power for days or required to leave their homes under evacuation orders have faced huge challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know these communities are concerned about the cost of re-stocking the fridge, or replacing damaged goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis payment will go a bit of the way to providing some immediate relief for hardship experienced.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"minister-for-emergency-services-jenny-mcallister\">Minister for Emergency Services Jenny McAllister<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis payment will help provide some immediate assistance after a very tough week for Northern New South Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re acting quickly to make financial assistance for impacted individuals and families available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know recovery will take some time, but we are here for the long haul.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"new-south-wales-minister-for-planning-paul-scully\">New South Wales Minister for Planning Paul Scully<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough this financial assistance, we aim to ease the burden of immediate costs like food, clothing, and accommodation, helping individuals and families get back on their feet as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEligible residents in the affected areas can apply for the financial assistance package starting Wednesday, March 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We encourage those in need to apply through Service NSW online or in person, and we are committed to making sure this support reaches those who need it most, as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"new-south-wales-minister-for-emergency-services-jihad-dib\">New South Wales Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur hearts go out to the people of this region who have done it particularly tough but continuously shown their resilience and spirit in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese payments in partnership with the Albanese Government will help the community by ensuring we get immediate financial relief to where it\u2019s needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work alongside our agencies and service partners to provide the community the help and support they need to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albanese and Minns Governments are today announcing emergency financial assistance to help residents in the State\u2019s north-east severely impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
