A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was injured while in custody in Newcastle overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 12.30am today (Thursday 2 February 2025), a 48-year-old man who was in Corrective Services NSW custody at Newcastle Police Station is believed to have suffered a medical episode and collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police attended the scene alongside NSW Ambulance paramedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police at the station were assisting paramedics and Corrective Services officers when the man\u2019s condition deteriorated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was treated by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A critical incident team from Brisbane Water Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
