{"id":31415,"date":"2025-02-18T17:55:44","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T17:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=31415"},"modified":"2025-02-18T17:55:44","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T17:55:44","slug":"one-nation-to-abolish-excise-on-alcohol-served-at-venues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/02\/18\/one-nation-to-abolish-excise-on-alcohol-served-at-venues\/","title":{"rendered":"One Nation to abolish excise on alcohol served at venues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One Nation will abolish the excise on alcohol served at licenced venues as part of its plan to put more money in Australians\u2019 pockets and support small businesses struggling under Labor\u2019s cost-of-living crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Party leader Senator Pauline Hanson said the hospitality sector had felt the impact of the cost-of-living crisis more than most.<br>\u201cEveryday we see pubs and restaurants across the country \u2013 some of them historic venues which have operated for decades or longer \u2013 being forced to close their doors because so many Australians can no longer afford to have a night out,\u201d Senator Hanson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re also being crippled by increased operating costs \u2013 energy bills, rents, insurance, council rates and state government regulations. Many of them rely on casual employees, but Labor\u2019s IR changes mean that many of them can\u2019t risk employing casuals anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne Nation\u2019s policy will abolish the alcohol excise on drinks served in these businesses. This will not apply to take-away alcohol, however our policy also includes freezing the biannual increase in the excise on all alcoholic beverages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Hanson said one of the more disturbing impacts of Labor\u2019s cost-of-living crisis was the increase in drinking at home, which was fuelling higher rates of domestic violence.<br>\u201cOur policy will help to reduce that,\u201d she said. \u201cWe also see how Australians struggling to make ends meet are experiencing increased mental health issues. Having a schooner with mates at the pub, or socialising with friends at restaurants and other venues, has always been how many Australians spend their leisure time. Labor\u2019s cost-of-living crisis has taken this option away from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbolishing the alcohol excise for hospitality venues is just one of many ways One Nation\u2019s plan will put more money in Australians\u2019 pockets. We hope to give venues a lifeline, a real shot in the arm, and enable Australians to again enjoy a night out without it breaking the budget.
