{"id":31310,"date":"2025-02-12T14:23:57","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T14:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=31310"},"modified":"2025-02-12T14:23:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T14:23:57","slug":"greater-sydney-is-about-to-get-a-whole-lot-greener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/02\/12\/greater-sydney-is-about-to-get-a-whole-lot-greener\/","title":{"rendered":"Greater Sydney is about to get a whole lot greener"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Councils in Greater Sydney and the Central Coast are invited to apply for a share of $4 million in grants to build more parks, playgrounds, walking tracks and restore local bushlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Metropolitan Greenspace Program 2024-25 is available to 34 councils for projects such as shared pedestrian and cycle pathways as well as open space strategies and master plans for future works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 1983 by the Wran Labor Government, the Metropolitan Greenspace Program is the longest running open space grants program in NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1990, more than $56 million has been provided for 680 projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This funding will support the Minn\u2019s Government\u2019s planning reforms as we unlock more homes and deliver supporting community infrastructure and green space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the program awarded $3&nbsp;million in funding supporting better access to open spaces for more than 31,000 homes within a 10-minute walk from residential areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A panel of experts will assess applications against selection criteria designed to ensure funding is awarded based on merit and impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for the 2024-25 round of the Metropolitan Greenspace Program will open on 12 February and close on 31 March 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is part of the Minns Labor Government\u2019s plan to build a better NSW with more green spaces, so young people, families and key local workers have somewhere to relax and play in the communities they choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on the Metropolitan Greenspace Program visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planning.nsw.gov.au\/plans-for-your-area\/infrastructure-funding\/metropolitan-greenspace-program\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.planning.nsw.gov.au\/plans-for-your-area\/infrastructure-funding\/metropolitan-greenspace-program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NSW Government is fast-tracking the delivery of more homes, and these residential areas will need to be supported by more parks and green spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Metropolitan Greenspace Program helps councils provide more of these facilities where people can relax and enjoy the great outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe program has a strong track record of increasing and improving open space to create thriving places and connected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI encourage eligible councils to apply for the next round of funding so they can build more high-quality green spaces for their residents and visitors alike.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Councils in Greater Sydney and the Central Coast are invited to apply for a share of $4 million in grants to build more parks, playgrounds, walking tracks and restore local bushlands.
