{"id":30956,"date":"2025-01-18T04:37:24","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T04:37:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=30956"},"modified":"2025-01-18T04:37:24","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T04:37:24","slug":"appointment-of-ambassadors-and-consul-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/01\/18\/appointment-of-ambassadors-and-consul-general\/","title":{"rendered":"Appointment of Ambassadors and Consul-General"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today I announce the appointment of three highly qualified individuals to lead Australian posts in Brussels, Belgrade and Lae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am pleased to announce the following appointments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreignminister.gov.au\/minister\/penny-wong\/media-release\/ambassador-belgium\">General (Rtd) Angus Campbell AO as Australia\u2019s next Ambassador to Belgium<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreignminister.gov.au\/minister\/penny-wong\/media-release\/ambassador-serbia\">Mr Peter Truswell as Australia\u2019s Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreignminister.gov.au\/minister\/penny-wong\/media-release\/consul-general-lae\">Mr Brenton Kanowski as Australia\u2019s Consul-General in Lae<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Australia&#8217;s representatives overseas prosecute our national interests and through their diplomatic engagement help uphold the norms and rules that have underpinned decades of peace and prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Campbell will also serve as the Ambassador to the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and Luxembourg. His experience as Chief of the Defence Force from 2018 until 2024 will help deepen Australia\u2019s peace and security cooperation with NATO, both in the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I thank the outgoing ambassadors and consul-general for their contributions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I announce the appointment of three highly qualified individuals to lead Australian posts in Brussels, Belgrade and Lae.
