About 6.15am today (5 November 2024), emergency services were called to The Long Bridge, High Street, Maitland, after a white Toyota Hilux utility and a motorcycle collided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rider – a 58-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to a John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrested the alleged driver of the utility – a 16-year-old male – near the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was conveyed to Maitland Hospital under police guard for injuries, as well as mandatory testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initial inquiries indicate the utility was stolen from Pelaw Main overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A crime scene has been established and officers from Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) will commence an investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
