{"id":29833,"date":"2024-10-30T01:01:09","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T01:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=29833"},"modified":"2024-10-30T01:01:09","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T01:01:09","slug":"australia-joins-global-conventions-to-protect-workers-rights-and-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/10\/30\/australia-joins-global-conventions-to-protect-workers-rights-and-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia joins global conventions to protect workers\u2019 rights and safety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Australia has now ratified all ten International Labour Organization\u2019s (ILO) Fundamental Conventions, reaffirming the Albanese Government\u2019s commitment to protect workers\u2019 rights and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final Fundamental Convention &#8211; Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention 187 \u2013 was ratified by Australia overnight [29 October] in a tripartite ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, with representatives of the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Convention promotes nationwide policies, systems and programs to support a safe and healthy working environment, and prevent occupational injuries, diseases and deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This achievement underscores the Government\u2019s belief in upholding international rules, norms and standards, and securing a safe and healthy working environment for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ratification ensures Australian Governments continue to promote labour standards and protect workers from occupational harm, in line with international best practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on the ILO\u2019s Fundamental Conventions, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/international-labour-standards\">International Labour Standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWhile our Government is making sure that Australians make more and keep more of what they earn, we are also ensuring that their working conditions are safe and supportive.<\/p><p>\u201cThis is a major milestone for Australian workers.
