{"id":28345,"date":"2024-08-08T23:19:35","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T23:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=28345"},"modified":"2024-08-08T23:21:54","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T23:21:54","slug":"rebadged-loggers-threaten-victorias-native-forest-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/08\/08\/rebadged-loggers-threaten-victorias-native-forest-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebadged loggers threaten Victoria\u2019s native forest ban"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Significant forest industry players are trying to undermine Victoria\u2019s ban on native forest logging on public land by using deceptive language to continue destroying native forests for profit, the Greens say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Greens Spokesperson for Forests Senator Nick McKim:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRevelations made by the ABC regarding the Healthy Forests Foundation are extremely concerning.\u201d<br><br>&#8220;We cannot allow rebadged industrial logging companies to just rebrand to skirt the law and continue their destructive practices.\u201d<br><br>&#8220;Logging operators are notorious for rising from the ashes and resuming their destructive operations under new names or in new states.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These companies pose a serious threat to the progress we\u2019ve made in protecting our forests.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cForestry Minister Julie Collins needs to clarify whether $1.4million in grant money awarded to the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation, or any other federal grants or subsidies, have been funneled to Healthy Forests.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLogging interests have for decades used public funds to subsidise operations which would otherwise be unviable, or used them for purposes different to those intended by government.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Greens Spokesperson for First Nations Senator Dorinda Cox:<\/strong><br><br>\u201cI am concerned about the issues created by particular industries in relation to Blackwashing, the destruction of our country including native forests.\u201d<br><br>\u201cThis is language I am particularly aware has been used in my home state of Western Australia.\u201d<br><br>\u201cWe need to ensure that when we use terms like \u2018First-Nations led\u2019 and \u2018Indigenous knowledges\u2019 to describe practices, that they are in fact grounded in our ancient ways of knowing and being with the land as our mother and protecting her indigeneity through our leadership and stewardship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will continue to watch this development and speak to Traditional Owners from this area about the approach they are taking, to ensure that the agreements made actually offer and assert our sovereign rights as First Peoples.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Significant forest industry players are trying to undermine Victoria\u2019s ban on native forest logging on public land by using deceptive language to continue destroying native forests for profit, the Greens say.
