{"id":27662,"date":"2024-07-04T08:51:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T08:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=27662"},"modified":"2024-07-04T08:51:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T08:51:16","slug":"labor-fails-australian-manufacturing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/07\/04\/labor-fails-australian-manufacturing\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor fails Australian manufacturing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Australian manufacturing is in crisis because of the Albanese Labor Government\u2019s wrong priorities and economic incompetence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/nation\/politics\/jobs-at-risk-as-anthony-albanese-oversees-boom-in-busts\/news-story\/5a41866e761f784d826c3e4fbcd603e0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manufacturing insolvencies have tripled<\/a>&nbsp;since the last election, domestic energy prices among the highest in the world,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/creditorwatch.com.au\/blog\/business-risk-index-february-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invoice defaults at record highs<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.australianchamber.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/AusChamberWestpacSurvey2024Q1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declines in new orders at lows not seen since the GFC<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aigroup.com.au\/news\/reports\/2024-economics\/australian-ceo-expectations-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growth rates<\/a>&nbsp;are anaemic for Australian industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can Labor promise a future made in Australia if they cannot keep the lights on today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Coalition will consider today\u2019s legislation, it does not appear to provide any real detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Coalition, along with economists and industry leaders, have raised serious concerns about poor consultation, opaque tender processes, and bad policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reality is this Bill will do nothing to alleviate the pressure Australian manufacturers are facing because of Labor\u2019s economic mismanagement and for too many businesses it is already too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a now removed web page demonstrates this is not the first time Labor has promised Australians a \u2018Future Made in Australia\u2019. It is a promise Anthony Albanese was elected on and it is a promise he has categorically failed to deliver in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labor\u2019s $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund is yet to spend a single dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Energy prices for manufacturers continue to soar and 90 per cent reliable baseload power is set to close under Labor\u2019s flawed \u2018renewables-only\u2019 approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet today with his trademark arrogance the Treasurer is out again promising a Future Made in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underscoring Labor\u2019s real motives they are going to spend&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adnews.com.au\/news\/future-made-in-australia-s-45-million-ad-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$45 million of taxpayer funds marketing<\/a>&nbsp;the Future Made in Australia proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So the test is clear: will the Australian people see ads for a Future Made in Australia before the Government funds projects?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Industry, Sussan Ley, said Labor were failing manufacturers and focused on winning votes not creating jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLabor\u2019s homegrown inflation is hurting Australians, families can\u2019t plan for their next grocery shop and businesses can\u2019t plan to keep their doors open, and instead of focusing on delivering an economic plan Anthony Albanese is funding market campaigns to win votes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAustralian manufacturers need a proper economic plan: they need cheaper and consistent energy, less red tape and industrial relations settings that work for businesses and employees, not the unions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Coalition has a plan to provide cheap, clean and consistent energy to return Australia to a manufacturing powerhouse\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor said the only thing being \u201cmade in Australia\u201d is Labor\u2019s homegrown inflation crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLabor thinks it can spin and spend its way out of a cost of living crisis. You can\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLabor\u2019s failure to deal with the source of the problem \u2013 high inflation \u2013 continues to damage the Australian economy and vital sectors like manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s legislation does not provide any clarity for manufacturers who have been suffering under Labor\u2019s economic mismanagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLabor has the wrong priorities and wrong policy settings for a prosperous economy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian manufacturing is in crisis because of the Albanese Labor Government\u2019s wrong priorities and economic incompetence.
