A Shorten Labor Government\u00a0will\u00a0partner with the Andrews Labor Government to\u00a0build Victoria\u2019s first fully\u00a0separated high-speed busway from Doncaster Road to Hoddle Street as part of\u00a0a comprehensive\u00a0$3.5\u00a0billion\u00a0infrastructure plan that will\u00a0ease\u00a0traffic\u00a0congestion\u00a0across Melbourne\u2019s\u00a0northern and south-eastern suburbs.
\nThis election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government,\u00a0which will build the transport infrastructure Melbourne needs, or more of the Liberals\u2019 cuts and chaos.\u00a0We need real change,\u00a0because more of the same isn\u2019t good enough.
\nFederal Labor\u00a0will\u00a0make a $250 million\u00a0contribution\u00a0towards constructing\u00a0the busway.\u00a0It will\u00a0include two separated bus-only lanes\u00a0running\u00a0alongside a\u00a0widened\u00a0Eastern Freeway,\u00a0commencing at\u00a0Doncaster Park and Ride\u00a0and ending at the existing bus lanes on Hoddle Street in the City.
\nBuses will\u00a0be able to\u00a0travel\u00a0at\u00a0up to 100km\/h, cutting\u00a0commute\u00a0times by up to a third.
\nThe\u00a0Doncaster Park and Ride\u00a0will be\u00a0upgraded\u00a0and a new\u00a0Park and Ride at Bulleen\u00a0built.\u00a0These facilities\u00a0will include additional bus platforms, multi-level parking, pedestrian and cycling access,\u00a0and cycling storage cages.
\nIn addition, a Shorten Labor Government\u00a0will\u00a0provide $1.75\u00a0billion\u00a0to help deliver the\u00a0North East Link, which will complete\u00a0the ring road between the Eastern Freeway and the M80\u00a0and\u00a0connect the\u00a0city\u2019s\u00a0growing northern and south-eastern suburbs.
\nWidening the\u00a0freeway\u00a0and constructing\u00a0the\u00a0busway\u00a0will\u00a0accommodate current and future traffic volumes and\u00a0ensure the\u00a0North East Link\u00a0achieves what it is designed to\u00a0do:\u00a0take trucks off local streets and return\u00a0those streets to\u00a0local\u00a0residents.
\nThe\u00a0project will create more than 10,000 construction jobs.
\nFederal Labor\u00a0will\u00a0also\u00a0invest $1.5 billion to\u00a0deliver\u00a0targeted upgrades to\u00a0key arterial roads across Melbourne\u2019s northern and south-eastern suburbs,\u00a0further\u00a0easing congestion, improving safety\u00a0and slashing travel times.
\nOver six years of cuts and chaos, the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison Government has\u00a0denied Victoria its fair share of\u00a0federal infrastructure funding.\u00a0Despite being home to a quarter of\u00a0Australians,\u00a0Victoria\u2019s\u00a0share of\u00a0the\u00a0federal infrastructure\u00a0budget\u00a0has fallen\u00a0to\u00a0as low as 7 per cent.
\nIn contrast with the\u00a0Liberals and Nationals, Federal Labor has developed a comprehensive plan\u00a0that will\u00a0ensure Victoria, Australia\u2019s fastest growing state, has the roads and public\u00a0transport networks\u00a0that\u00a0are\u00a0fit for purpose.
\nBy tackling traffic congestion, our investments will boost productivity, thereby laying the foundations for future economic and jobs growth.
