{"id":27206,"date":"2024-06-13T07:05:12","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T07:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=27206"},"modified":"2024-06-13T07:05:12","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T07:05:12","slug":"waste-levy-waived-for-areas-hit-by-heavy-rain-and-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/06\/13\/waste-levy-waived-for-areas-hit-by-heavy-rain-and-flooding\/","title":{"rendered":"Waste levy waived for areas hit by heavy rain and flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The NSW Government is helping communities rebuild and recover from heavy rainfall and flooding by waiving the waste levy in affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents in 6 LGA&#8217;s hit hardest by a downpour in early June can dispose of flood-affected items at landfill sites without having to pay the waste levy fee until early September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exemption covers waste on public and private land, including damaged building materials, furniture, carpet and gardening debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Removing the fee will expedite the recovery process and ease financial burdens on impacted households and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Natural Disaster Waste Levy Exemption applies to the following LGA&#8217;s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Camden<\/li><li>Wollongong<\/li><li>Shoalhaven<\/li><li>Shellharbour<\/li><li>Wingecarribee<\/li><li>Kiama.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The exemption means residents will not be charged the levy until 4 September 2024. Local landfill gate fees may apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These communities were also hit by heavy rain and flooding in April and had been granted a waste levy exemption until 30 June 2024 for that weather event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More broadly, the NSW Government is currently reviewing the waste levy as part of efforts to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill and boost recycling efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/yoursay.epa.nsw.gov.au\/nsw-waste-levy-review\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">participate in the consultation<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Government is helping communities rebuild and recover from heavy rainfall and flooding by waiving the waste levy in affected areas.
