{"id":26512,"date":"2024-05-08T08:56:43","date_gmt":"2024-05-08T08:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=26512"},"modified":"2024-05-08T08:56:43","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T08:56:43","slug":"500000-of-life-saving-defibrillators-delivered-to-disadvantaged-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/05\/08\/500000-of-life-saving-defibrillators-delivered-to-disadvantaged-areas\/","title":{"rendered":"$500,000 of life-saving defibrillators delivered to disadvantaged areas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Grassroots sport in some of NSW\u2019s most disadvantaged areas have received funding for new life-saving defibrillators at local sports facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One hundred and ninety-four organisations have shared in $500,000 under the NSW Government\u2019s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each organisation will receive up to $3000 towards the purchase, installation, and training in a new automated external defibrillator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSW Labor Government is committed to rebuilding our grassroots sporting communities and ensuring local facilities are fit-for-purpose. The program was available to sport and recreation clubs, associations, and organisations as well as councils and service clubs in the state\u2019s lowest 5 socio-economic areas according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get more information on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sport.nsw.gov.au\/grants\/local-sport-defibrillator-grant-program\/local-sport-defibrillator-grant-program-recipients-2\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Local Sports Defibrillator Program<\/a>, including the list of recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHeart attacks and heart disease do not discriminate, and access to a defibrillator immediately following a cardiac arrest can mean the difference between life and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NSW Government wants to ensure that people participating in sport in the state\u2019s most disadvantaged areas have access to the same life-saving equipment as people in more affluent areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NSW Government\u2019s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program ensures that our smallest community sport and recreation clubs are equipped to respond to life-threatening emergencies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professor Jamie Vandenberg, Co-deputy Director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNine out 10 people who have a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital won\u2019t survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut your chances are greatly increased if there is a defibrillator close at hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see that more sports clubs across NSW will now have these life-saving devices installed as a result of these grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery second counts when it comes to surviving a sudden cardiac arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grassroots sport in some of NSW\u2019s most disadvantaged areas have received funding for new life-saving defibrillators at local sports facilities.
