{"id":26488,"date":"2024-05-07T06:07:27","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T06:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=26488"},"modified":"2024-05-07T06:07:27","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T06:07:27","slug":"nsw-government-levelling-the-playing-field-for-womens-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/05\/07\/nsw-government-levelling-the-playing-field-for-womens-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"NSW Government levelling the playing field for women\u2019s sport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Women\u2019s sport has received a major injection with 26 projects receiving funding through the NSW Government\u2019s $30 million Level the Playing Field Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program, which was inspired by the success of the Matildas at the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023, will fund the construction of new and upgraded sports facilities, including amenities and lighting improvements across NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recipients have received grants between $200,000 &#8211; $2 million, including the new Shell Cove Sport and Recreation Facility at Shellharbour, upgrades to Bathurst Indoor Sport Stadium and upgrades to Don Waring Oval at Port Stephens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Sport Steve Kamper joined female futsal players at Football NSW\u2019s Indoor Futsal Stadium today after the organisation received $600,000 for upgrades to the Stadium and two fields at Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find out more about the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sport.nsw.gov.au\/grants\/level-the-playing-field-program\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Level the Playing Field Program<\/a>, including the list of funding recipients<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NSW Government is levelling the playing field for women\u2019s sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy transforming and expanding sports facilities across NSW we are enabling more women and girls to participate in sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut most importantly, we are providing safer, more comfortable and more inclusive facilities, breaking down the barriers that have traditionally prevented many women from participating in sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Women Jodie Harrison said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSport should be inclusive for people of all ages, genders and abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut we know women face different barriers to men when participating in sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program delivers on the NSW Government\u2019s commitment to creating a level playing field for women at all levels of sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough projects like the ones announced today, we will enable more women and girls to develop a lifelong love of sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFemale football is bursting at the seams post the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup, with female participation up 17% year to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe upgrading and improvement of football facilities at Valentine Sports Park will assist in attracting and retaining more females to football as we target 50\/50 gender participation in the next 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur two infrastructure projects at Valentine Sports Park will encourage a safe, and accessible facility that significantly enhances our Home of Football, with an emphasis on creating an inclusive space for women and girls.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women\u2019s sport has received a major injection with 26 projects receiving funding through the NSW Government\u2019s $30 million Level the Playing Field Program.
