{"id":26478,"date":"2024-05-07T06:03:40","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T06:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=26478"},"modified":"2024-05-07T06:03:40","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T06:03:40","slug":"investing-in-a-better-future-for-western-sydney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/05\/07\/investing-in-a-better-future-for-western-sydney\/","title":{"rendered":"Investing in a better future for Western Sydney"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Albanese Government is making critical investments in Western Sydney which will cement its future as a hub for growth and a place of opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are committing $1.9 billion towards 14 new projects and providing additional funding for two existing projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These projects will help underpin the fundamental shift of jobs and growth to Sydney\u2019s west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our new investments include construction projects, as well as planning projects, to ensure we lay the ground work for a pipeline of future road investments, which are properly scoped, designed and costed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our investment will help deliver 14 new projects, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mamre Road Stage 2 Upgrade<\/li><li>Elizabeth Drive &#8211; Priority Sections Upgrade<\/li><li>Garfield Road East Upgrade<\/li><li>Memorial Avenue Upgrade<\/li><li>Appin Road \u2013 St Johns Road Intersection Upgrade<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We will invest $147.5 million for planning for roads across greater Western Sydney to ensure that road infrastructure can keep pace with a growing population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also investing $20 million to partner with the NSW Government to expand the scope of the South West Sydney Rail Planning \u2013 Business Case to include consideration of extending the line to the Macarthur region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where the previous Morrison Government had a deluge of press releases with a drought of delivery, we are ensuring that projects can be completed and the benefits flow to communities<br>We are already investing over $14 billion in Western Sydney, more than the previous Liberals and Nationals government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new investment takes that total to $17.3 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be more to say at Budget time about further investments for NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prime-minister-of-australia-anthony-albanese\">Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy Government is proud to support the people of Western Sydney and deliver the roads and rail lines they need and deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is in addition to the new Western Sydney airport and the recently opened Moorebank Intermodal Precinct which will drive jobs and economic activity for Western Sydney.<br>\u201cWe are getting on with delivering a better future for all Australians, one made in Australia that builds economic opportunity and thriving communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"minister-for-infrastructure-transport-regional-development-and-local-government-catherine-king\">Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are working for all Australians to deliver significant infrastructure that increases opportunities and connections, builds communities and improves safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe hard work we undertook to clean up the mess in the infrastructure pipeline means there is room to ensure current projects can be delivered and plan for future projects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thank the NSW Government for working closely with us to ensure the delivery of these projects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th><strong>Australian Government funding for new construction projects<\/strong><\/th><th><strong>$ million<\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Mamre Road Stage 2 Upgrade<\/td><td>500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Elizabeth Drive &#8211;
