{"id":25285,"date":"2024-02-19T17:52:59","date_gmt":"2024-02-19T17:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=25285"},"modified":"2024-02-19T17:52:59","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T17:52:59","slug":"minister-continues-to-pick-fights-and-mislead-the-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/02\/19\/minister-continues-to-pick-fights-and-mislead-the-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister continues to pick fights and mislead the community"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today\u2019s comments from the Minister for Planning attacking Labor-led Waverley Council and misleading the community over Labor\u2019s one-size-fits-all planning policies is further evidence of the \u2018get out of the way\u2019 approach to planning, which has become a hallmark of the Government.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cCommunities from Bondi to the Blue Mountains are working out what the Government\u2019s one-size-fits-all planning approach means for their community and every time they raise legitimate questions, the Government attacks them and tells them to \u201cget out of the way\u201d, Mr Farlow said.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cToday we have another Labor-led Council that is questioning the State Labor Government\u2019s \u2018biggest re-zoning in Australia\u2019s history\u2019 and rather than engaging with their concerns, the Minister has chosen to mislead, rather than listen to the legitimate concerns of the community.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cChris Minns said that a fight with councils was \u201cthe last thing we want\u201d, yet every time a Council raises legitimate concerns over his planning agenda, his Ministers are deployed to attack the councils and their communities.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThe Minister is either misleading the community or ignorant of his policy when he says, \u201cThe Government\u2019s reforms simply require councils to consider these housing types.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThe fact is that the Government\u2019s changes will override Council\u2019s requirements, increase height and bulk, reduce tree canopy and parking requirements and allow apartments, townhouses and dual occupancies in areas where they are currently not permitted.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThe Minister takes exception to Waverley Council\u2019s assessment of Bondi Beach, but let\u2019s take the example of Roscoe Street Bondi Beach, where R3 properties have a height control of 12.5m and Floor Space Ratio of 0.9:1 \u2013 under the Government\u2019s proposals and in-fill affordable housing provisions, the building height will more than double to 27.3m and the Floor Space Ratio will more than quadruple to 3.9:1.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cCouncil\u2019s hands will be tied in assessing these developments because of the non-refusal standards the State Government are implementing that will override local council\u2019s controls.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cFrom day one in Planning this Government has told communities to \u2018get out of the way\u2019.
