{"id":24259,"date":"2023-11-27T11:07:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T11:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=24259"},"modified":"2023-11-27T11:07:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-27T11:07:33","slug":"lack-of-detail-in-jscem-report-leaves-door-open-for-two-party-stitch-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/11\/27\/lack-of-detail-in-jscem-report-leaves-door-open-for-two-party-stitch-up\/","title":{"rendered":"LACK OF DETAIL IN JSCEM REPORT LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR TWO PARTY STITCH UP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Greens leader in the Senate and spokesperson on democracy Senator Larissa Waters<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll year Labor has used the JSCEM process as an excuse for rejecting independent and Greens private members&#8217; bills for electoral reform on topics like truth in political advertising, donation reform and transparency, and on-the-day enrolment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd yet here we are, with the final JSCEM report delivered, and still zero detail on how Labor plans to work with the parliament to deliver improved transparency and integrity to our elections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Greens welcome the proposal for more Senate seats for the territories, but it is very concerning to see no further progress made on donations, transparency or tackling misinformation in today\u2019s report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf Labor is genuine about electoral reform to deal with misinformation, with big spenders like Clive Palmer, and with dark money, they\u2019d be consulting and working with the crossbench instead of talking about \u2018bipartisan approaches\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAny proposal that means that if you\u2019re already elected you get a hefty envelope full of cash, but if you\u2019re trying to get elected, your donations are heavily restricted is not a reform, it&#8217;s a rort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPropping up the dying two party system is not electoral reform, it\u2019s a rort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter the Greens&#8217; landslide outcome at the last election, and the victories of independents in metropolitan Liberal seats, the political class is feeling the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLabor and the Liberals\u2019 vote is going backwards.
