{"id":23118,"date":"2023-09-27T05:52:07","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T05:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=23118"},"modified":"2023-09-27T05:52:07","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T05:52:07","slug":"broken-promises-for-flood-impacted-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/09\/27\/broken-promises-for-flood-impacted-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken promises for flood impacted communities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The NSW Opposition has called out an appalling broken promise in the Minns Government\u2019s first budget which reveals at minimum a $300m gap in the funding provided to deliver vital road upgrades to North-West Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2023\/24 Budget, the Minns Government committed $200m over two years for the Western Sydney Flood Resilience program<a href=\"https:\/\/nswliberal.org.au\/news\/broken-promises-for-flood-impacted-communities#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However in examining the projects, the Opposition can reveal the Government has only provided 40% of the total cost to deliver these works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Project<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Labor Funding<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Pre-election Cost<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Richmond Road Upgrade \u2013 M7 to Townson Road<\/td><td>$200m over two years<\/td><td>$285m<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Pitt Town Bypass<\/td><td>$100m&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nswliberal.org.au\/news\/broken-promises-for-flood-impacted-communities#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Garfield Road East Upgrade<\/td><td>$100m<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Upgrade the intersection of The Driftway and Londonderry Road<\/td><td>$15m<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Total funding<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>$200m<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>$500m<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Shortfall<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>&#8211; $300m<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These projects were funded for delivery by the Coalition Government prior to the election through the WestInvest Fund, which required projects to have a finalised business case. During the election campaign the Labor Opposition matched the funding for the majority of these projects<a href=\"https:\/\/nswliberal.org.au\/news\/broken-promises-for-flood-impacted-communities#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shadow Minister for Roads Natalie Ward commented on the broken promise \u201cCutting funding to flood resilience infrastructure is a disgrace, they promised the projects before the election and now they can\u2019t deliver it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Government needs to explain how it intends on delivering four projects inside two years with 40% of the funding \u2013 it doesn\u2019t add up, just like Labor\u2019s budget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Member for Hawkesbury Robyn Preston commented \u201cThis Labor Government shouldn\u2019t give false hope by announcing vital infrastructure projects without adequate funding.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Opposition has called out an appalling broken promise in the Minns Government\u2019s first budget which reveals at minimum a $300m gap in the funding provided to deliver vital road upgrades to North-West Sydney.
