{"id":22970,"date":"2023-09-19T07:47:52","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T07:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=22970"},"modified":"2023-09-19T07:47:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T07:47:52","slug":"higher-quality-homes-and-better-protections-for-nsw-consumers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/09\/19\/higher-quality-homes-and-better-protections-for-nsw-consumers\/","title":{"rendered":"Higher quality homes and better protections for NSW consumers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Minns Labor Government has delivered a budget to build more high-quality homes, and to ensure consumers are protected in a tough cost-of-living environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A down-payment of&nbsp;<strong>$24 million<\/strong>&nbsp;will establish the NSW Building Commission and let it hit the ground running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An initial team of more than 400 dedicated staff will work with Commissioner David Chandler to drive dodgy builders out of the market and ensure buyers get the quality homes they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSW Government recognises the pressing need for more homes \u2013 to ease pressure in the housing market and keep young people in NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minns Government is committed to ensuring the tens of thousands of new homes that NSW needs are quality homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The creation of a standalone Building Commission won\u2019t just deliver better quality homes, it will also let NSW Fair Trading focus on its core business \u2013 protecting consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will do this by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Working with the NSW Rental Commissioner to better protect the rights of renters and modernise the system to make it fairer.<\/li><li>Delivering an additional $1 million in funding for renters\u2019 advocacy organisations.<\/li><li>Making sure products are safe and holding businesses that break the law accountable.<\/li><li>Working to resolve strata disputes before they end up in expensive legal battles.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minns Budget lays the foundations for a better consumer protections system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve made the careful decisions needed to reprioritise spending and resources so we can invest in and regulators people in NSW need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minns Labor Government has delivered a budget to build more high-quality homes, and to ensure consumers are protected in a tough cost-of-living environment.
