{"id":22789,"date":"2023-09-11T10:45:06","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T10:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=22789"},"modified":"2023-09-11T10:45:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T10:45:06","slug":"schools-out-on-labors-infrastructure-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/09\/11\/schools-out-on-labors-infrastructure-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"School\u2019s out on Labor\u2019s infrastructure plan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Minns Labor Government is once again claiming credit for the Coalition\u2019s work, after it announced it will build \u2018new\u2019 schools in Western Sydney.<br>&nbsp;<br>Opposition Leader Mark Speakman said Labor is reaping the rewards of the groundwork put in place by the Liberals and Nationals, with several of the schools already in the development stage.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cMost of these projects were only made possible by the planning and funding set aside by the former Government, but the Government is yet again trying to claim ideas that aren\u2019t theirs,\u201d Mr Speakman said.&#8221;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cBy the Government\u2019s own admission, $3 billion of today\u2019s announcement is from the last Budget delivered by the Liberals and Nationals. Proof of this includes the fact that construction began in 2022 for the new high school at Wentworth Point and work started at Gulyangarri Primary School in Liverpool before Labor was elected.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cDuring our time in Government, the Liberals and Nationals delivered $9.1b in new and upgraded schools since 2017, with an additional $8.6b in the pipeline for future projects, so that is more than $17.7 billion worth of school infrastructure across the state.\u201d&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>In the Coalition\u2019s 2022-23 Budget, money was allocated for the following schools in various stages of delivery:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>New high school for Wentworth Point<\/li><li>New primary school for Gables<\/li><li>New primary school for Melonba<\/li><li>New high school for Melonba<\/li><li>New primary school for Nirimba Fields<\/li><li>New primary school for Tallawong<\/li><li>New primary school for Gregory Hills<\/li><li>New high school for Edmondson Park<\/li><li>New primary school for Liverpool (Gulyangarri Public)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>Shadow Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said today\u2019s announcement lacks detail and transparency.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cTo say we didn&#8217;t invest in school infrastructure is another blatant Labor lie, especially considering only $500m of their announcement is supposedly &#8216;new&#8217; money\u201d, Ms Mitchell said.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cThe Government hasn\u2019t said if this is new money or a redirection of existing funds in the Budget.
