The Australian Energy Market Operator today sounded a dire warning, signalling the increased likelihood of significant energy shortfalls as renewable energy investment stalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy Ted O\u2019Brien said these warnings come as a direct consequence of Labor\u2019s radical energy experiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe market operator\u2019s latest report is another frightening wake-up call for an incompetent federal Labor government,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLabor’s radical experiment with Australia’s energy system has created a looming crisis, with an increasing threat of blackouts as soon as this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAustralians are already paying some of the most expensive energy bills in the world and now they have been told their lights may not turn on when they need them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt will only get worse if Labor continues down this dangerous path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report comes as both Federal and State Governments grapple with the closure of coal fired power stations, including New South Wales\u2019s Eraring Power Station which provides 20% of the State\u2019s electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Shadow Energy Spokesperson called on Labor to scrap its ideological approach to energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLabor must immediately stop its ideological crusade against energy technologies it doesn\u2019t like that reliably keep the lights on,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt must adopt an \u2018All the Above\u2019 approach to energy – as the Coalition has done – to ensure a balanced mix of technologies power our grid into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRenewables are an important part of the mix but Labor is setting them up for failure, not success, by demanding a renewables-only grid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
