{"id":22422,"date":"2023-08-21T13:47:59","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T13:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=22422"},"modified":"2023-08-21T13:47:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T13:47:59","slug":"women-make-up-more-than-half-of-nsw-ambulance-ranks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/08\/21\/women-make-up-more-than-half-of-nsw-ambulance-ranks\/","title":{"rendered":"Women make up more than half of NSW Ambulance ranks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NSW Ambulance has become the first NSW emergency service to reach gender parity in its ranks, with women now making up more than 50% of the NSW Ambulance workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Health Minister Ryan Park was joined by NSW Minister for Women Jodie Harrison and Member for Coogee Marjorie O\u2019Neill to mark the milestone at Randwick Ambulance Superstation in Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday is about acknowledging the important contribution women make across all areas of the service,\u201d Mr Park said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDedicated and skilled women work across NSW Ambulance in many roles, including as paramedics, aeromedical crews, nurses, doctors, specialist rescue crews, call takers and dispatchers, and corporate and support staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly grateful for their contribution to the health system in NSW and thank them for their service to their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Minister for Women Jodie Harrison said it is important that workforces reflect the people they serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorkplace gender diversity matters and it is pleasing to see NSW Ambulance has achieved this,\u201d Minister Harrison said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is an important step for NSW Ambulance as an employer and for patient trust and care. We know that a diverse and inclusive workplace is beneficial to all employees \u2013 not just women \u2013 and has a positive impact on the organisation as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Health Secretary Ms Susan Pearce AM said women now occupied almost 45% of all leadership roles across the organisation, and made up the majority of the executive leadership team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;NSW Health is committed to building a workforce that is representative of the community it serves, so I want to commend NSW Ambulance on reaching such an important milestone,\u201d Ms Pearce said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGender diversity is so important because it brings a breadth of perspectives, experiences and skills that enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Ambulance Chief Executive Dominic Morgan congratulated the women who have helped grow NSW Ambulance into the respected, skilled and diverse organisation it is today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of the devoted women who helped us achieve this milestone,\u201d Dr Morgan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee Clout was the first female paramedic in NSW \u2013 joining the ranks in May 1979 at Wagga Wagga ambulance station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really pleased that people are now being employed for their skills and experience, with women receiving the same opportunity,\u201d Ms Clout said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGender has got nothing to do with it. It\u2019s just about what you can bring to the job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Member for Coogee Dr Marjorie O&#8217;Neill joined Ministers Park and Harrison to mark the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a fantastic achievement,\u201d Dr O\u2019Neill said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorkforce parity better enables our health services to meet the needs of the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Ambulance implements a range of support programs to ensure a welcoming and inclusive workplace, including tailored training programs, mentoring initiatives and ongoing professional development opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Ambulance has become the first NSW emergency service to reach gender parity in its ranks, with women now making up more than 50% of the NSW Ambulance workforce.
