{"id":21995,"date":"2023-07-27T22:58:54","date_gmt":"2023-07-27T22:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=21995"},"modified":"2023-07-27T22:58:54","modified_gmt":"2023-07-27T22:58:54","slug":"expansion-of-quality-teaching-rounds-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/07\/27\/expansion-of-quality-teaching-rounds-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Expansion of Quality Teaching Rounds Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A successful program that helps teachers learn from each other about best classroom practices has been expanded thanks to almost $5 million in funding from the Albanese Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Quality Teaching Round program developed by the University of Newcastle will be expanded across the country after starting in NSW and following successful trials in Queensland and Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It involves groups of four teachers observing each other and analysing each other\u2019s teaching practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evidence from the trials has shown that this helps teachers learn from each other and improves outcomes for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An additional 1,600 teachers are set to benefit and from Term 3 more early career teachers will be able to access the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quality Teaching Rounds is one part of the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan that Education Ministers agreed to last year to address the national issue of teacher workforce shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Minister for Education Jason Clare said:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur teachers are experts at what they do \u2013 and who better to learn from than each other. Over a decade of data shows this program works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt supports new and experienced teachers, and the evidence shows it helps improve students\u2019 reading and maths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the past nine years, it\u2019s helped more than 4,700 teachers and benefited at least 785,000 students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon said:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cQuality Teaching Rounds, co-created by renowned Laureate Professor Jenny Gore and Dr Julie Bowe from the University of Newcastle is revolutionising teacher professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis additional funding from the Albanese Government will ensure more teachers benefit from this ground-breaking program, while also further establishing the University of Newcastle as a leader in education and professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great outcome for teachers, students and our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share.php?u=https:\/\/www.sharonclaydon.com\/media_release_quality_teaching_rounds\/?recruiter_id=\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A successful program that helps teachers learn from each other about best classroom practices has been expanded thanks to almost $5 million in funding from the Albanese Government.
