{"id":21710,"date":"2023-07-07T07:11:31","date_gmt":"2023-07-07T07:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=21710"},"modified":"2023-07-07T07:11:31","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T07:11:31","slug":"next-steps-to-a-fairer-more-modern-rental-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/07\/07\/next-steps-to-a-fairer-more-modern-rental-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Next steps to a fairer, more modern rental market"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work to implement stage 2 of the Minns Labor Government\u2019s landmark rental reforms is underway, with consultations open across the state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After 12 years without a voice, the Minns government is asking renters \u2013 along with owners and industry \u2013 for their views on critical changes to make renting fairer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through this process, people in NSW can comment on changes that will help transform the system and bring it into the 21st century, including;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ending no grounds evictions by requiring a reason to end a lease<\/li><li>making it easier for renters to have pets<\/li><li>protecting renters\u2019 personal information and privacy<\/li><li>making it easier to transfer rental bonds from one property to another<\/li><li>other ways to improve conditions for renters and take the pressure off.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move paves the way for legislation to be introduced by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from rental reforms, the Minns Government is taking steps to increase housing supply across the state with high-quality new homes to put downward pressure on rents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That work includes an audit of surplus public land that could be rezoned for housing, speeding up project approvals and establishing the NSW Building Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People in NSW can have their say on the rental reforms until August 11 2023.<br><br>Get more information and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au\/improving-nsw-rental-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Have Your Say on the improving NSW rental lawslaunch<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Minister for Fair Trading and Better Regulation Anoulack Chanthivong said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRenters are under extreme pressure in a tight market, but they\u2019re also saddled with unfair and outdated rules that make life even harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re getting on with our commitment to rebalance the equation, give renters more protections and let them get on with their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to hear from everyone because renters and owners need each other, and they both need a fair set of rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis consultation will give people across the state a voice on what they think of changes to improve stability and fairness in the current rental environment and into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The work to implement stage 2 of the Minns Labor Government\u2019s landmark rental reforms is underway, with consultations open across the state.&nbsp; After 12 years without a voice, the Minns government is asking renters \u2013 along with owners and industry \u2013 for their views on critical changes to make renting fairer.
