{"id":21679,"date":"2023-07-05T16:40:41","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T16:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=21679"},"modified":"2023-07-05T16:40:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T16:40:41","slug":"250000-to-support-first-nations-women-into-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/07\/05\/250000-to-support-first-nations-women-into-work\/","title":{"rendered":"$250,000 to support First Nations women into work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As part of the NSW Government\u2019s Return to Work Pathways Program, $250,000 has been provided to Angus Knight Foundation to help First Nations women and girls gain employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Women Jodie Harrison congratulated Angus Knight Foundation (AKG Foundation) for its Women\u2019s Business Return to Work project, which supports the NSW Government\u2019s commitment to enhance women\u2019s economic opportunity and advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIncreasing women\u2019s workforce participation is a cornerstone to achieving gender equality and economic security,\u201d Minister Harrison said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWomen face common and persistent employment barriers, and for some communities, there are additional complexities unique to their needs, life stages and circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to support this project which will help Aboriginal women and girls to re-engage with the workforce and aspire to leadership in a culturally safe place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AKG Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established to advance Indigenous Peoples, including through employment and community development programs, education, and training. The Foundation supports specialised services for First Nations Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Women\u2019s Business Hubs create meaningful and lasting opportunities through providing a culturally safe space where women can come and dream, imagine and become. Each of the Women\u2019s Hubs provide valuable access to employment pathways, quality learning, entrepreneurship, and educational and vocational training workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christianna Cartwright, Real Futures CEO &amp; Chair of the AKG Foundation said \u201cWe are thrilled to be delivering the NSW Government\u2019s Return to Work Pathways Program. We know First Nations women face adversity, but as the 2020 Wiyi Yani U Thangani Report found, \u2018Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls have remarkable skills, knowledge and boundless potential\u2019 and are capable, resilient and courageous in the face of adversity if given the right support.
