{"id":21307,"date":"2023-05-31T06:41:30","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T06:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=21307"},"modified":"2023-05-31T06:41:30","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T06:41:30","slug":"newcastle-crowned-nsws-top-tourism-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/05\/31\/newcastle-crowned-nsws-top-tourism-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle crowned NSW\u2019s \u2018Top Tourism Town\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Newcastle has been hailed NSW\u2019s \u2018Top Tourism Town\u2019 by Business NSW at the Local Government NSW Destination &amp; Visitor Economy Conference in Manly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City of Newcastle (CN) was presented with the award by NSW Tourism Industry Council Executive Director, Paula Martin, in recognition of its strategic initiatives to increase visitation and support tourism development for local operators and hospitality businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Top-Tourism-Town.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/About-Us\/News-and-Updates\/Latest-News\/Newcastle-crowned-NSW-s-Top-Tourism-Town\/Top-Tourism-Town.jpg\">Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the award was recognition of CN\u2019s collaboration with industry, government, and tourism operators to boost the local visitor economy.<br><br>\u201cThis accolade acknowledges City of Newcastle&#8217;s leadership in growing our city as a must-see destination,\u201d Cr Nelmes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCementing our city\u2019s status as a premier tourism and major events destination, we partnered with Venues NSW to secure Newcastle as the first stop on Sir Elton John\u2019s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Australia under a strategic Major Events Partnership and has since secured a coveted spot on the upcoming world tour of American pop powerhouse Pink in February 2024.<br><br>\u201cAttracting headline acts of this calibre is a testament to Newcastle&#8217;s growth as a world-class events and cultural city and indicative of a thriving local economy.<br><br>\u201cMajor events are a key part of our Destination Management Plan as a primary driver of the local tourism visitor economy, delivering both an immediate and ongoing benefit for the community and economy, with greater visitation, investment and liveability outcomes.<br><br>\u201cWe are committed to ongoing investment in major events and tourism through event sponsorship, industry development, our recent tourism brand refresh \u2018Seek Off Beat\u2019 and targeted marketing campaigns which are integral to building a thriving, diverse and robust visitor economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2024, the expansion of Newcastle Airport will pave the way to attract more international events, while international hotel brands like Crystalbrook and QT have already recognised Newcastle&#8217;s expanding tourism appeal, investing millions of dollars to open five-star hotels in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo help attract more leisure visitors, a key action in Newcastle\u2019s Destination Management Plan has been to work with the business sector to increase the number of bookable visitor experiences on offer,\u201d Cr Nelmes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy continuing to leverage our city&#8217;s unique offering in a way that appeals to visitors from outside the region and abroad, Newcastle\u2019s future as an international tourism and major events destination is bright.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newcastle will now vie for Australia\u2019s Top Tourism Town title at an event later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch City of Newcastle\u2019s winning-award submission&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitnewcastle.com.au\/seek-off-beat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newcastle has been hailed NSW\u2019s \u2018Top Tourism Town\u2019 by Business NSW at the Local Government NSW Destination &amp; Visitor Economy Conference in Manly.
