Flood affected communities in NSW will be able to obtain free legal advice as a result of a $7 million Commonwealth funding investment to aid ongoing relief and recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commonwealth Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus said the new funding for community legal services in NSW meant people will have ongoing ready access to free, independent and confidential support to help navigate legal problems including insurance claims, housing and tenancy rights, employment issues and social security, credit and debt, domestic violence, destroyed documents and parenting arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese devastating floods have taken every material thing from those affected. The Commonwealth\u2019s extra funding for Community Legal Centres means they\u2019ll now have the legal assistance they need to help rebuild their lives,\u201d Mr Dreyfus said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEvery part of people\u2019s lives is impacted by these natural disasters and we want to ensure that legal assistance is available to them at this critical time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NSW Attorney General Mark Speakman said the funding will help Community Legal Centres (CLCs) continue to support people through the ongoing flood recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe floods wreaked havoc on our State,\u201d Mr Speakman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the challenging aftermath of a natural disaster free legal assistance is crucial, especially to people who are socially and economically disadvantaged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven CLCs will each receive $250,000 per year, over four years:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7 Shoalcoast CLC<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 Mid North Coast Legal Centre<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 Illawarra Legal Centre<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains CLC<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 Welfare Rights Centre<\/p>\n\n\n\n
