{"id":20061,"date":"2023-02-06T06:59:55","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T06:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=20061"},"modified":"2023-02-06T06:59:55","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T06:59:55","slug":"surf-club-upgrades-to-benefit-beachgoers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2023\/02\/06\/surf-club-upgrades-to-benefit-beachgoers\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf club upgrades to benefit beachgoers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Coastal communities will benefit from more than $5 million to upgrade, restore and improve local surf clubs as part of the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government\u2019s Surf Club Facility Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said 26 surf clubs would receive funding through the program to create more modern, accessible facilities and to ensure lifesavers have what they need to keep the community safe on our beaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSurf clubs are at the heart of coastal communities and the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government is investing in them to ensure they remain an integral part of towns across the State,\u201d Mr Henskens said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program will deliver a range of game-changing projects for surf clubs that will result in improved facilities, increased participation in sport and recreation activities and general uplifts in usage to ensure overall community benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program provides grants of between $50,000 and $650,000 to develop facilities that will boost participation, increase usage and improve safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience Steph Cooke said the surf club upgrades build on the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government\u2019s investment in equipment and training to support volunteer lifesavers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur 75,000 volunteer lifesavers patrol 129 every weekend and public holiday between October and April, so it\u2019s vital that they have modern and fit-for-purpose facilities,\u201d Ms Cooke said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir work is quite literally life saving and I\u2019m very grateful for the thousands of rescues they\u2019ve undertaken this summer to protect locals and visitors to our coastline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surf Life Saving NSW President George Shales OAM said ensuring surf clubs across NSW were maintained and upgraded is vitally important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur volunteers deserve safe, accessible and secure facilities in order to train new lifesavers and support the community,\u201d Mr Shales said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany Surf Life Saving Clubs have been on the frontline in the last year, responding to incidents and emergencies including the recent flood disaster, and they need to be able to safely store and access vital rescue equipment at short notice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full list of recipients and further details on the program are available&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sport.nsw.gov.au%2Fgrants%2Fsurf-club-facility-program%2Fsurf-club-facility-program-2022-23-recipients&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cwebmaster%40nsw.liberal.org.au%7C957de32e12d840bc1aae08db0711dfff%7Cf7b9e888f8a7467190c0d6ca09a51633%7C0%7C0%7C638111545743448321%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=m%2FYS78RsGjwE3OV6DpYymUrjqXzbhvF%2Bvgp5r%2FcGNKY%3D&amp;reserved=0\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coastal communities will benefit from more than $5 million to upgrade, restore and improve local surf clubs as part of the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government\u2019s Surf Club Facility Program.
