A new chapter in Australia\u2019s cultural story has begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Albanese Labor Government\u2019s new National Cultural Policy \u2013 Revive \u2013<\/em> has been released today and will set the course for Australia\u2019s arts, entertainment and cultural sector for the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Revive <\/em>will empower our talented artists and arts organisations to thrive and grow \u2013 unlocking new opportunities, reaching new audiences and telling stories in compelling new ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It will bring drive, direction and vision back to the $17 billion industry \u2013 which employs an estimated 400,000 Australians \u2013 after a lost decade of federal policy drift and funding neglect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Backed by $286 million in dedicated funding over four years, Revive\u2019s <\/em>centrepiece is the establishment of Creative Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Creative Australia will be the Government\u2019s new principal arts investment and advisory body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The governing body of Creative Australia will continue to be known as the Australia Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Creative Australia will expand on and modernise the Australia Council\u2019s work with additional funding of $200 million over four years \u2013 restoring the money cut by the former Liberal and National Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Funding decisions will be made on the basis of artistic merit and at arm\u2019s length from Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Within Creative Australia four new bodies will be established:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Revive<\/em> is built on five pillars but puts First Nations first – recognising and respecting the crucial place of these stories at the heart of our arts and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s why in addition to the Creative Australia First Nations body, Revive<\/em> commits the Government to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Revive<\/em> also commits the Government to regulating Australian content on streaming platforms; improving lending rights and incomes for Australian writers; increased funding for regional art; and dozens of other measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAfter a decade of neglect and funding cuts, today we start a new chapter in Australia\u2019s art and culture sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur new cultural policy Revive <\/em>will provide the support Australian artists need to thrive and grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am excited by the potential it will unleash, and to see our extraordinary and diverse Australian stories continue to be told with originality, wit, creativity and flair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt builds on the proud legacies of earlier Labor governments that recognised the importance of art and culture to Australia\u2019s identity, social unity and economic prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cUnder Revive<\/em>, there will be a place for every story and a story for every place. It is a comprehensive roadmap for Australia\u2019s arts and culture that touches all areas of government, from cultural diplomacy in foreign affairs to health and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur artists are creators and workers. This sector is essential for our culture and for our economy.
