{"id":1973,"date":"2019-03-18T23:49:50","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1973"},"modified":"2019-03-18T23:49:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:49:50","slug":"investing-100-million-for-solar-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/03\/18\/investing-100-million-for-solar-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Investing $100 Million for Solar Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Labor Leader<span lang=\"EN-US\">, Michael Daley, has announced today that Labor will invest $100 million to install solar panels on hundreds of NSW schools.<\/span><br \/>\nMr Daley said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Labor Party knows that climate change is real and unlike the Liberals and Nationals, we\u2019re committed to tackling it.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;As we saw at rallies across the country on Friday, the next generation is demanding real action on climate change.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Putting solar panels on schools will help students further their knowledge about renewable energy, as well as bring down their school\u2019s power bills and reduce emissions.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"0\">\n<div class=\"resize-sensor\">\n<div class=\"resize-sensor-expand\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"resize-sensor-shrink\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Labor\u2019s $100 million Solar Schools package will see solar panels installed on more than 350 schools, to drive down power costs, meaning funding can be directed to students\u2019 learning needs.<br \/>\nThe solar panels will also help offset the costs for air conditioning\u00a0installed in every school as part of Labor\u2019s $800 million Cool Schools policy.<br \/>\nInstalling solar panels on schools is part of Labor\u2019s commitment to renewable energy in NSW which includes delivering 100 per cent renewable energy for all State Government agencies by 2025 (it is currently only six per cent).<br \/>\nA Daley Labor Government will also introduce NSW\u2019s first renewable energy target which will require NSW to generate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least 50 per cent of our state\u2019s energy from renewable sources by 2030; and<\/li>\n<li>Move to as close to as possible 100 per cent energy from renewable sources by 2050.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Labor\u2019s\u00a0Solar Homes\u00a0policy\u00a0will give 500,000 households across NSW the chance to add solar panels to their homes and enjoy cheaper, cleaner and greener energy through a rebate, to be capped at $2,200 per household.<br \/>\nDeputy Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for the Environment, Penny Sharpe:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Labor takes climate change very seriously unlike the Liberals and Nationals who have\u00a0neglected the NSW Government\u2019s responsibility to reduce emissions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Shadow Minister for Climate Change Adam Searle said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSolar Schools is yet another aspect of Labor\u2019s plan for cheaper and cleaner energy across NSW.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Labor Leader, Michael Daley, has announced today that Labor will invest $100 million to install solar panels on hundreds of NSW schools.
