{"id":1961,"date":"2019-03-18T23:43:36","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1961"},"modified":"2019-03-18T23:43:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:43:36","slug":"better-health-care-for-western-australians-under-labor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/03\/18\/better-health-care-for-western-australians-under-labor\/","title":{"rendered":"BETTER HEALTH CARE FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIANS UNDER LABOR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Western Australia will benefit from better health and hospital services with a Shorten\u00a0Labor\u00a0Government investing an additional $110 million in vital new projects across the state.<br \/>\nMark McGowan and his team are doing a great job fighting for better health care &#8211; but Western Australia deserves their fair share from the Federal Government. A Shorten Labor Government will partner with the McGowan Government to deliver the projects the state needs for better health.<br \/>\nLabor\u2019s investment blitz will overhaul outdated regional hospitals, upgrade surgery facilities, provide new palliative care beds, and boost emergency capacity and dental services.<br \/>\nLabor\u2019s new commitments will improve care for patients from central Perth to regional towns like Albany and further locations like Halls Creek.<br \/>\nLabor is today committing to fund seven new projects. We will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build a clinical command centre at Royal Perth Hospital to help provide care to patients across Western Australia ($15m)<\/li>\n<li>Establish an all-new health clinic in Yanchep, where health services are sorely lacking ($18.2m)<\/li>\n<li>Replace the dilapidated and asbestos-riddled Laverton Hospital with a new contemporary facility<br \/>\n($12.8m), joining a McGowan Government commitment of $4 million to the project<\/li>\n<li>Upgrade Collie Hospital\u2019s surgery facilities so that locals can get world-class care close to home ($12.2m)<\/li>\n<li>Provide 25 new palliative care beds at Osborne Park Hospital\u00a0to ensure more people get the best possible care at the end of their lives\u00a0($25m)<\/li>\n<li>Double the capacity of Albany Hospital\u2019s dental clinic ($5m)<\/li>\n<li>Provide\u00a0dialysis facilities\u00a0for\u00a0Halls Creek\u00a0in the Kimberley\u00a0($700,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This new funding package comes on top of commitments Labor has already made to build an Urgent Care Centre in Fremantle ($5m); redevelop the Bentley Health Service ($10.9m); and upgrade Kalamunda District Community Hospital\u2019s palliative care facilities ($7.6m).<br \/>\nThat brings Federal Labor\u2019s capital commitment to the state\u2019s hospitals to an additional $112.4 million, with more to be announced.<br \/>\nThis funding is in addition to Labor\u2019s existing investment in expanding the Joondalup health campus, including the construction of a 75 bed mental health facility, as well as the rollout of new Medicare-funded MRI licences across the state.<br \/>\nLabor will also restore core funding to every public hospital, reversing Scott Morrison\u2019s cuts.<br \/>\nWe can afford these investments because we\u2019ve made tough decisions to make multinationals pay their fair share and close unfair tax loopholes.<br \/>\nScott Morrison and the Liberals cannot be trusted with health &#8211; as Treasurer\u00a0Scott Morrison\u00a0cut funding from health while trying to\u00a0give\u00a0a\u00a0$80 billion\u00a0tax handout to big business, including\u00a0$17 billion to the big banks.<br \/>\nHe cut $77 million from Western Australia\u2019s hospitals under the current 2017 to 2020 funding agreement. And now he\u2019s trying to lock in even bigger cuts for the next five years.<br \/>\nLabor\u00a0is more than reversing the Liberal cuts with our $2.8 billion Better Hospitals Fund, which we will use to fund these vital projects.<br \/>\nOnly\u00a0Labor\u00a0can be trusted to fix Western Australia\u2019s hospitals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Western Australia will benefit from better health and hospital services with a Shorten\u00a0Labor\u00a0Government investing an additional $110 million in vital new projects across the state.
