{"id":19378,"date":"2022-12-02T14:59:46","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T14:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=19378"},"modified":"2022-12-02T14:59:46","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T14:59:46","slug":"delivering-secure-jobs-and-better-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/12\/02\/delivering-secure-jobs-and-better-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"DELIVERING SECURE JOBS AND BETTER PAY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Albanese Labor Government has delivered on the next step of its plan to lift wages, improve job security and start closing the gender pay gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government\u2019s Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill \u2013 which passed Federal Parliament today \u2013 will give Australian workers a better deal and a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a decade of deliberate wage suppression under the Liberals and Nationals, Australian workers need a pay rise and these new laws will deliver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By modernising the bargaining system we will see more workplace agreements, delivering better productivity and flexibility for employers and better pay and conditions for workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re bringing our workplace relations system up to date with a Government that wants to get wages moving again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new laws also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reform the Better Off Overall Test so it\u2019s simple, flexible and fair<\/li><li>Put gender pay equity at the heart of the Fair Work Act<\/li><li>Ban pay secrecy clauses that hold back women&#8217;s wages<\/li><li>Expand access to flexible rostering arrangements<\/li><li>Limit the use of fixed term contracts<\/li><li>Ban job ads that advertise below minimum rates of pay<\/li><li>Terminate WorkChoices \u201czombie\u201d agreements<\/li><li>Give the Fair Work Commission more powers to arbitrate industrial disputes<\/li><li>Abolish politicised anti-worker organisations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We thank the minor parties and crossbenchers who supported this important legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But every single Liberal and National MP voted against this Bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Opposition voted against better wages, against secure jobs and against closing the gender pay gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They spent ten years keeping wages low as a deliberate design feature of their economic policies \u2013 and they\u2019re still at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Government is taking the opposite approach. Higher wages are a deliberate design feature of this Government\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the first things we did as a Government was help secure a pay rise for Australia\u2019s lowest paid workers. We have also supported aged care workers to secure a wage rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Secure Jobs Better Pay Bill is the next step in that commitment &#8211; but it won\u2019t be the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government will deliver a second tranche of workplace relations reforms next year to close the loopholes that are undermining job security and wage growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albanese Labor Government has delivered on the next step of its plan to lift wages, improve job security and start closing the gender pay gap.
