{"id":1888,"date":"2019-03-14T17:56:46","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T17:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1888"},"modified":"2019-03-14T17:56:46","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T17:56:46","slug":"labor-will-build-tweed-valley-hospital-at-kings-forest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/03\/14\/labor-will-build-tweed-valley-hospital-at-kings-forest\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor will build Tweed Valley Hospital at Kings Forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Labor Leader Michael Daley today returned to the North Coast to re-affirm NSW Labor\u2019s plan to build the $534 million Tweed Valley Hospital at Kings Forest rather than on sensitive agricultural farmland at Cudgen.<br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In a major statement on the new Tweed Valley Hospital, NSW Labor leader Michael Daley:<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00b7\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Rejected claims by NSW Health bureaucrats and the National Party that the project will be delayed by moving to the Kings Forest site, saying an incoming Labor Government would \u201chaul in the bureaucrats to begin work immediately\u201d with a guarantee that it would be completed on-time and on budget;<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00b7\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Pledged to retain the old Tweed Hospital site and the Cudgen site in public hands \u2013 never selling either site to property developers; and<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00b7\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Committed that there would be no privatisation of health and hospital services in the Northern NSW Local Health District \u2013 after the Liberals-Nationals failed attempt to privatise five regional hospitals.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr Daley was joined today by Country Labor candidate for Tweed Craig Elliot to recommit to Labor\u2019s plans for the new Tweed Hospital.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/michaeldaleyMP\/status\/1106014110930472960<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">NSW Labor reiterated the State election will be a referendum on the location of the Tweed Hospital<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr Daley said that people across regional NSW were up in arms about the Berejiklian Government\u2019s $2.2 billion to Sydney stadiums instead of properly funding schools and hospitals across NSW.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">M<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">r<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0Elliot reaffirmed NSW Labor\u2019s opposition to the National\u2019s plans to build the Tweed Hospital on Cudgen farmland and condemned the National Party\u2019s botched site selection process.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr Daley expressed concern that the National Party had chosen the Cudgen farmland site as a \u201cTrojan horse\u201d to overturn height limits in Kingscliff and to open the door for over-development \u2013 destroying the unique quality of life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Reports earlier this month revealed that a Queensland property developer which had made donations to the Liberal-National Party recently purchased farm land next to the Nationals proposed hospital site.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Retaining the sites in public hands will require additional funds but NSW Labor is committed to protecting Cudgen farmland and not selling off Government land to developers for a quick buck like the Nationals will.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">NSW Labor Leader Michael Daley said that Labor will always prioritise protecting farmland and the community ahead of developers.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cMy commitment is ironclad \u2013 Labor will build the hospital in Kings Forest and protect the current hospital from being handed over to developers,\u201d he said.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cNSW Labor will build the hospital on time and on budget \u2013 but the Nationals and NSW Health will continue to pedal their mis-information\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Country Labor candidate for Tweed Craig Elliot expressed concern that the Nationals were using the hospital location as a Trojan horse for developers to take-over state significant farmland.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cWhether it be high rise in Kingscliff or a nine-storey hospital on Cudgen farmland &#8211; Geoff Provest and the Nationals are failing to protect the Tweed from inappropriate developments,\u201d Mr Elliot said.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cThe March 2019 election will be a referendum on the location of a new Tweed Hospital.
