{"id":18856,"date":"2022-10-26T09:12:28","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T09:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=18856"},"modified":"2022-10-26T09:12:28","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T09:12:28","slug":"more-quality-housing-for-teacher-in-the-bush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/10\/26\/more-quality-housing-for-teacher-in-the-bush\/","title":{"rendered":"More quality housing for teacher in the bush"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More public school teachers are being encouraged to move to the bush thanks to a significant NSW Government investment to improve the supply and quality of teacher housing.\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>An additional $23.5 million housing investment has been provided on top of the $174 million key worker housing investment already announced as part of the 2022-23 Budget.\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said providing housing is one of the most tangible ways we can attract and retain workers in the regions.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cWe know housing is one of the biggest factors in attracting workers and driving further growth in the regions,\u201d Mr Toole said.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cIt is vital that teachers who work in the regions, especially in our more remote and rural schools, have access to comfortable, modern housing close to their workplace.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell said $8.4 million of the additional investment will be spent on new housing in towns including Bellata, Broken Hill, Coolah, Gilgandra and Ivanhoe.\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u201cWhile we have generous financial incentives for teachers to go to a country school, many teachers considering a regional move have told us that housing is just as important a factor in their decision-making, if not more so,\u201d Ms Mitchell said.\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u201cEnsuring teachers have quality housing options available to them will attract and retain quality teachers to some of our more remote schools.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Construction work onnew housing has already started in the State\u2019s north this term.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Teacher housing improvements will include $12.3 million of funding for renovations to approximately 50 Teachers Housing Authority managed properties in areas including Stuart Town, Mumbil, Ellerston, Girilambone and Adaminaby. \u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<br>Around 100 teacher houses will have new heating and cooling installed, worth almost $2 million, and $800,000 is being invested in increasing housing supply by taking out head leases, with the properties to be occupied by country teachers.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Investment in teacher housing is part of the Government&#8217;s delivery against the recommendations of the 2021\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Feducation.nsw.gov.au%2Fabout-us%2Fstrategies-and-reports%2Freview-of-rural-remote-incentives-report&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cwebmaster%40nsw.liberal.org.au%7Ce90d8a11156e4651128d08dab6dfc19e%7Cf7b9e888f8a7467190c0d6ca09a51633%7C0%7C0%7C638023369546563370%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=Zb5OnP9yb6ohTim9CpAja1baEEMiUTi%2FXBEQd2ZVr74%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\">Regional and Remote Incentives Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More public school teachers are being encouraged to move to the bush thanks to a significant NSW Government investment to improve the supply and quality of teacher housing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0An additional $23.5 million housing investment has been provided on top of the $174 million key worker housing investment already announced as part of the 2022-23 Budget.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Deputy Premier &hellip;
