{"id":18674,"date":"2022-10-17T00:15:57","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T00:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=18674"},"modified":"2022-10-17T00:15:57","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T00:15:57","slug":"nsw-celebrates-850000-carers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/10\/17\/nsw-celebrates-850000-carers\/","title":{"rendered":"NSW celebrates 850,000 carers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NSW Government thanks the more than 850,000 carers across NSW for their significant work as we celebrate the 30<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of National Carers Week.<br>\u00a0<br>Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said National Carers Week is an opportunity to recognise the crucial support that carers provide and to thank them for their contribution to our community.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThis year\u2019s theme \u2018Millions of Reasons to Care\u2019 is a testament to the endless hours of support NSW carers provide,\u201d Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cCaring for a loved one takes unimaginable dedication and patience and this is a week to highlight the vital work they do.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThese selfless individuals in our community don\u2019t look for thanks and praise but their incredible efforts need to be celebrated.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>In NSW, carers provide help to people with disability, mental illness, chronic illness, frail age, dementia or drug and alcohol dependency. Almost 80,000 carers are young people 25 years or younger.<br>\u00a0<br>NSW carer Levina provides care and support for her younger brother.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cMy little brother has autism and is non-verbal. I\u2019ve basically been his carer all his life. There are some tough moments but nothing brings me more joy than seeing him live his life to the fullest \u2013 happy, healthy and thriving. He\u2019s my best friend,\u201d Levina said.<br>\u201cCarers should know they\u2019re not alone. There are so many of us out there who are in the same boat as you. Just remember your wellbeing is as important as the person you care for.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>The NSW Government has committed $4.9 million to support carers as part of the NSW Carers Strategy 2020-2030.<br>\u00a0<br>Support is available through the Carers Gateway.
