{"id":17909,"date":"2022-08-26T01:04:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-26T01:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=17909"},"modified":"2022-08-26T01:04:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T01:04:14","slug":"establishment-of-the-royal-commission-into-robodebt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/08\/26\/establishment-of-the-royal-commission-into-robodebt\/","title":{"rendered":"ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION INTO ROBODEBT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u202fGovernor-General His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) has issued Letters Patent establishing a Royal Commission into the\u202fformer\u202fdebt assessment and recovery scheme\u202fcommonly known as Robodebt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inquiry will examine, among other things:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\u202festablishment,\u202fdesign and implementation of the scheme; who was responsible for it; why they considered Robodebt necessary; and, any concerns raised regarding the legality and fairness;<\/li><li>The handling of concerns raised about the scheme, including\u202fadverse decisions made by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal;<\/li><li>The outcomes of the scheme, including the harm to vulnerable individuals and the total financial cost to government; and<\/li><li>Measures needed to prevent similar failures in public administration.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Royal Commission\u2019s focus will be on\u202fdecisions made by those in positions of seniority.
