{"id":17768,"date":"2022-08-16T00:49:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T00:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=17768"},"modified":"2022-08-16T00:49:33","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T00:49:33","slug":"new-ses-campaign-in-six-languages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/08\/16\/new-ses-campaign-in-six-languages\/","title":{"rendered":"New SES campaign in six languages"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new public information campaign focused on diverse communities in flood-prone areas has been launched by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).<br>&nbsp;<br>Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke said the new messaging includes video content and covers social media, radio and multicultural community newspapers.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cThe campaign has been developed in the six languages of Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin and Punjabi to help culturally and linguistically diverse communities around the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley understand what to do in the event of a flood,\u201d Ms Cooke said.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cIt\u2019s important people in flood-prone areas understand SES advice so they\u2019re aware of the dangers of severe weather events and are ready to respond when flooding does occur.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure said the campaign was another example of the NSW Government\u2019s commitment to ensuring everyone has access to important information.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cAs a multicultural society, it\u2019s crucial we provide clear and concise information about what they should do in an emergency, which ultimately helps them become more resilient,\u201d Mr Coure said.<br>&nbsp;<br>The campaign\u2019s key messages include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\u2019s not safe to stay at home when subject to an evacuation order;<\/li><li>It\u2019s not safe to drive through floodwater;<\/li><li>It\u2019s important to listen to SES warnings and keep up to date with advice; and<\/li><li>Know how to prepare an emergency \u2018get ready to go\u2019 kit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<br>SES Commissioner Carlene York said the campaign covers a variety of media channels to keep people safe.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cThis campaign is really important to target locals in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley who speak languages other than English, and some of whom have experienced multiple floods in the past 18 months,\u201d Commissioner York said.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cIt\u2019s great we now have tailored content in multiple languages so that it is as accessible and relevant as possible.
