{"id":17742,"date":"2022-08-13T19:28:10","date_gmt":"2022-08-13T19:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=17742"},"modified":"2022-08-13T19:28:10","modified_gmt":"2022-08-13T19:28:10","slug":"national-science-week-kicks-off-with-a-bang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/08\/13\/national-science-week-kicks-off-with-a-bang\/","title":{"rendered":"National Science Week kicks off with a bang"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it\u2019s inspiring a sense of wonder about the species in our oceans, hearing from women leading in STEM or exploring science through improvisation, music and art, there\u2019ll be an event for everyone to enjoy this National Science Week.<br>\u00a0<br>Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology Alister Henskens kicked off National Science Week in NSW (13-21 August) at the Calyx in the grounds of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, which co-hosts Australia\u2019s largest science event, the Sydney Science Trail, with the Australian Museum.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThis week is all about giving the community, families, students and teachers a hands-on science experience with a diverse range of talks, panels and shows presented by science communicators and scientific researchers,\u201d Mr Henskens said.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThis statewide festival of science is set to inspire our bright young minds and encourage an interest in STEM, which offers unrivalled career opportunities to make a difference to our society and the planet.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>NSW Chief Scientist &amp; Engineer Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte said science and technology play an important, often underappreciated role in our society.<br>\u201cFrom developing new medicines and technologies, to understanding biodiversity, the great events and activities featured throughout the week show everyone just how much we use science in our everyday life,\u201d Professor Durrant-Whyte said.<br>National Science Week in NSW is an initiative of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Finspiringnsw.org.au%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cwebmaster%40nsw.liberal.org.au%7C4977c068f8f8442aadb908da7caff40f%7Cf7b9e888f8a7467190c0d6ca09a51633%7C0%7C0%7C637959393002743597%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=U5O07GGTV96vPR8yo09%2F0jBltTxPu3VhRTddPYGgIxo%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Inspiring Australia<\/a>, aimed at promoting partnerships and collaborations across the science sector and building on the myriad science engagement activities across the country.<br>\u00a0<br>Inspiring Australia NSW Manager Meredith Hall said there is a strong line-up of activities right across the state.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cWe all want to bring people together to learn and be inspired by science, and doing that in person after two years of disruption will make our engagement efforts more meaningful,\u201d Ms Hall said.<br>\u00a0<br>Chief Executive of the Royal Botanic Gardens &amp;
