{"id":17588,"date":"2022-08-02T10:47:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-02T10:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=17588"},"modified":"2022-08-02T10:47:55","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T10:47:55","slug":"firm-action-to-fight-homelessness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/08\/02\/firm-action-to-fight-homelessness\/","title":{"rendered":"Firm action to fight homelessness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NSW Government\u2019s record $1.2 billion to tackle homelessness and provide safe accommodation to those in need by supporting proven initiatives ensures a continued commitment to break the cycle of disadvantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said assertive outreach, early intervention and stable accommodation are key to combatting homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs we mark Homelessness Week, we shine a light on the NSW Government\u2019s commitment to provide supports and services across our state to reduce the number of people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness,\u201d Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEarly intervention is at the heart of our dedication to achieve the Premier\u2019s Priority to halve street homelessness by 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Together Home program is one of many exceptional programs across our state reducing rough sleeping.<br>\u201cTogether Home not only provides a stable place to live, but also ensures there are wrap-around supports to help people rebuild their lives and reduce a return to rough sleeping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Together Home commenced in 2020, the NSW Government has invested $177.8 million, including a $37 million injection in the 2022-23 NSW Budget, with more than 990 people supported under the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022-23 $394.8 million is being invested to continue a range of specialist homelessness services across NSW, referral services such as Link2home, enhancements for youth refuges and after hours domestic and family violence services and NSW Homelessness Strategy initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There has been also been an increase in outreach street patrols to engage with more people sleeping rough and offer support through wrap-around services and temporary accommodation.<br><br>Through the NSW Homelessness Strategy, the NSW Government has invested over $20 million to support people to maintain their social housing tenancies and prevent a return to homelessness.&nbsp;<br><br>Anybody who is homeless or at risk of homelessness can contact&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facs.nsw.gov.au%2Fhousing%2Fhelp%2Fways%2Fare-you-homeless&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cwebmaster%40nsw.liberal.org.au%7C18ec9a3b37684722841908da734e45f6%7Cf7b9e888f8a7467190c0d6ca09a51633%7C0%7C0%7C637949077274121624%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=0cZEgQIFDYpA4Rp0z8T0QFPU8ZD2VKFvsGgW5fKHH5k%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Link2home<\/a>&nbsp;on 1800 152 152.
