{"id":1751,"date":"2019-03-06T03:24:38","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T03:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1751"},"modified":"2019-03-06T03:24:38","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T03:24:38","slug":"investing-in-cleaner-and-greener-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/investing-in-cleaner-and-greener-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Investing in cleaner and greener communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Morrison Government will invest more than $22 million to deliver practical environmental projects, giving communities new opportunities to protect and care for their local environment.<br \/>\nThe Communities Environment Program will provide up to $150,000 to each Federal electorate in 2019-20 for community-led projects that deliver real environmental benefits.<br \/>\nThe program builds on the Coalition\u2019s strong record of investing in grassroots environmental action through initiatives such as our $1 billion National Landcare Program and 20 Million Trees.<br \/>\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison said the Government was backing community organisations to deliver a range of on-ground projects that conserve and protect Australia\u2019s environment.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are harnessing local communities and local knowledge to protect our environment,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<br \/>\n\u201cLocals know best and we will support and encourage projects such as revegetating riverbanks and wetlands, removing weeds from parks and reserves or restoring sand dunes on our coasts.<br \/>\n\u201cIf it\u2019s backing local community organisations through this program or investing $3.5 billion in a new Climate Solutions Package to reduce emissions and support renewables, we can only do this because of a strong economy.<br \/>\n\u201cOnly the Liberal and Nationals Government can protect the environment without raising taxes.\u201d<br \/>\nMinister for the Environment Melissa Price said the new program would protect the environment.<br \/>\n\u201cFrom Sydney\u2019s iconic waterways, to the beaches of Perth, to Port Phillip Bay and beyond, we will be supporting local groups to deliver clear and measurable benefits to our environment and our communities,\u201d Minister Price said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe environment belongs to us all and Australians want to do their bit to protect and enhance the world around them for future generations.\u201d<br \/>\nThe program is modelled on the Government\u2019s successful Stronger Communities program. Each electorate can receive funding for up to 20 projects, with grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.<br \/>\nThe program will fund small-scale projects that deliver outcomes for priorities such as restoring coasts, wetlands, riverbanks and waterways, protecting native animals, reducing waste and litter, and greening local parks and urban areas.<br \/>\nA broad range of organisations will be eligible, including community clubs like Lions Clubs and Rotary Clubs, Indigenous organisations, Landcare groups, schools, and other community and conservation groups.<br \/>\nMore information is available:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.environment.gov.au\/cep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.environment.gov.au\/cep<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Morrison Government will invest more than $22 million to deliver practical environmental projects, giving communities new opportunities to protect and care for their local environment.
