{"id":17194,"date":"2022-06-30T23:57:10","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T23:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=17194"},"modified":"2022-06-30T23:57:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T23:57:10","slug":"nsw-hit-with-double-whammy-of-tolls-and-electricity-price-rises-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/06\/30\/nsw-hit-with-double-whammy-of-tolls-and-electricity-price-rises-today\/","title":{"rendered":"NSW hit with double whammy of tolls and electricity price rises today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the same day that both tolls and electricity prices going up, NSW Labor is reiterating its call for Dominic Perrottet and Matt Kean to consider re-diverting some of the chronic underspends in programs to help families with immediate and serious cost of living relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent analysis revealed that the Perrottet Government is currently underspending on its \u201cCost of Living\u201d programs \u2013 with at least $265 million in eligible energy rebates remaining unclaimed last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From today, some NSW residential customers will pay up to 18 per cent&nbsp;or $369 more each year on their electricity bill, while small businesses will pay 20 per cent&nbsp;or $1,130 more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highest price rises will be seen across Western Sydney, whose residents already pay the highest energy bills as well as steep rises in the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains.<br><br>In comparison to every other state and territory across the country, NSW currently offers the least support for energy bills to low-income households.<br><br>The average take-up of government energy rebates is 51 per cent, with some as low as 11 per cent.<br>&nbsp;<br>Additionally, Dine and Discover vouchers, and small business fees and charges rebates, have expired as of yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Chris Minns, NSW Labor leader said:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>NSW residents will be hit with a double whammy today \u2013 both tolls and electricity prices are going up \u2013 and its brought to you by Dominic Perrottet\u2019s privatisation agenda.<\/p><p>\u201cUnder Dominic Perrottet and the NSW Liberals, we are in a cost of living crisis\u201d.<\/p><p>&#8220;We\u2019re calling on the Government to look at the chronic underspend of programs \u2013 there\u2019s $265 million in eligible energy rebates that can be used.<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s a common sense idea, that can offer real and immediate cost of living relief to NSW families now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jihad Dib, Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMatt Kean hasn\u2019t busted energy bills, energy bills have busted families. It\u2019s time for the government to come up with a real plan for cost of living relief that families can access.\u201d<br><br>\u201cThe government\u2019s approach to cost of living relief is that if you\u2019re not on an existing concession then you\u2019re not feeling the pinch. This is naive and out of touch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Minister is quick with a quip and big statements like he\u2019s going to \u2018bust\u2019 energy bills. But the truth is that under his watch, families have done it tougher than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom today every family\u2019s electricity bill will be going up. The government is out of touch if they don\u2019t think this is hitting families really hard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong><u>BACKGROUND<\/u><\/strong><br><br>For the 10 per cent of customers on standing offers (as determined by the Default Market Offer) power bills will increase by up to 18 per cent or $369 for households and 20% or $1,130 for businesses from today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Endeavour Energy (Western Sydney, Blue Mountains, Illawarra and South Coast)<ul><li>Residential &#8211; 18.3 per cent increase or $369<\/li><li>Small business \u2013 19.7 per cent increase or $1,130<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Ausgrid (Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter)<ul><li>Residential \u2013 11 per cent increase or $210<\/li><li>Small business \u2013 10 per cent increase or $690<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Essential (Regional NSW)<ul><li>Residential \u2013 9.6 per cent increase or $219<\/li><li>Small business \u2013 14.7 per cent or $1,146<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Energy Retailers have also flagged increases for customers on market offers \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Origin Energy will increase bills by 14.4 per cent or $270 on average from July 1.<\/li><li>AGL customers will see an average increase of 17.5 per cent or around $300 from August 1.
