{"id":16956,"date":"2022-06-10T23:55:48","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T23:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=16956"},"modified":"2022-06-10T23:55:48","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T23:55:48","slug":"supporting-trade-for-economic-resilience-and-recovery-in-the-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/06\/10\/supporting-trade-for-economic-resilience-and-recovery-in-the-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting trade for economic resilience and recovery in the region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahead of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12), the Australian Government announces its $2.9 million contribution to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia\u2019s contribution to the STDF helps developing and least-developed countries build capacity to participate in, and benefit from, the multilateral rules-based trading system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The STDF assists developing countries implement quarantine standards to gain access to international agricultural markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This contribution builds on Australia\u2019s long-standing support to help Indo-Pacific countries access the benefits of digital trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia\u2019a $5.6 million E-Commerce Fund has helped over 850 small businesses in our region access the benefits of digital trade through e\u2011commerce skills development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fund has supported draft e-commerce laws in Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, a one-stop national digital tourism booking platform in Vanuatu, and a mobile application to promote major commodity production and compliance in Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Australian Government is committed to supporting developing countries to enhance their ability to export, their international competitiveness, and their engagement in the global economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we approach MC12, the Australian Government also reiterates its support for Timor-Leste\u2019s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong said:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAn effective, rules-based trading system with the WTO at its core is fundamental to the global economy \u2013 including the stability and prosperity of our region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur priority is to ensure our partners can support their development goals by exercising their WTO rights and fulfilling their WTO obligations\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell said:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAustralia is one of the Standards and Trade Development Facility\u2019s most active supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are proud to be boosting support for countries in the Indo-Pacific region to access the benefits of the global agriculture market.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12), the Australian Government announces its $2.9 million contribution to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF).
